b pressure

firstly your bp would be lower in the morning and rising through the day, ideally it should be below 130/80 and better still 130/70

Just to give an extract from the Blood Pressure Associations as to what is a good, bad or indifferent. Take note of these figures.

What blood pressure readings mean
Less than 120 over 80 (120/80): Your blood pressure reading is ideal and healthy. Follow a healthy lifestyle to keep it at this level.

Between 120 over 80 and 140 over 90 (120/80-140/90): You have a normal blood pressure reading but it is a little higher than it should be, and you should try to lower it. Make healthy changes to your lifestyle.

140 over 90 (140/90) or higher (over a number of weeks): You may have high blood pressure (hypertension). Change your lifestyle - see your doctor or nurse and take any medicines they may give you.

Hi m_cooper
I am on Blood pressure treatment and my doctor told me mine is at its highest first thing in the morning. I think it might be the pills though.

Mine was very high at 164/109 when I was diagnosed as diabetic nearly nine years ago. However, with medication and changes in lifestyle my readings now average a very healthy 100/65 and are lower than my sports-mad ever-active thirteen years old grandson.

Apart from taking the medication, the changes that I made to my lifestyle which I consider had the biggest effect are:

a) Reduction in alcohol intake from more than 30 units per week to less than 10 units

b) Loss of 30 kgs of weight

Hope that gives you some idea of what can be possible.

well gp's must have different ideas as mine told me it rises through the day,i was on meds as it was 160-90 about a year ago;i have stopped the meds because the side effects were driving me mad.i eat a lot more fruit now and my bp is 118-125/70-75

There seems to be a difference between what a person with diabetes's blood pressure should be in the US and the UK. In the Uk it is advised to keep bp below 130 systolic pressure and in the UK many doctors and nurse think it is OK if it is under 140 systolic pressure. My doctor likes to see it below 130 whereas the nurses feel it is fine if it is 135. At the moment my blood pressure is about 120/65 and I am happy with that. It is a strange thing but I went on a short break. I did not take the bp monitor with me and when I came back from the break and took it the next day it was over 140 systolic and stayed at this for a few days before coming down to normal. I don't understand why as I was not stressed and walked a lot more. The only difference was that I had a bit of a holiday with food by eating things I don't normally eat.
