Bad Day - Just Venting

I'm having a rotten day on BG control. I've been averaging 6.3 for several months now, below 6 pre-meals - usually in a stable range with few spikes, practising LCHF since early June.
But today I'm consistently high and can't yet put my finger on why.
No single reading below 7 today, an 8.7 pre lunch (chicken salad) and a 9.3, after it (2 hours). Fewer than 10g of carbs so far today and not many yesterday.
I'm right in the middle of a box of strips so it's not a dodgy batch. Hands are cleaned before every reading. Been for a decent walk.
Maybe coming down with something, but nothing obvious. Drinking plenty of water.
Just venting really - I know many of you'll say "it's one of those things. Don't sweat it, nothing really bad will happen in one day".
But I'm frustrated. Brings some of the upset and fear of diagnosis back to the surface. Want to stay in control but this is reminder that I can only do so much.

I think it is a good sign - your metabolism is reacting to your good control and is doing something - something entirely unfathomable, but there is something going on.
Perhaps we need to trust our bodies again - yes they have failed to cope with the modern diet, but with a little help things can become good again, even though it can feel like we are being shaken up to see what drops out at some times.

@rhubarb73 just to say I feel for you. It’s good though to vent the anger/ frustration certainly better than reacting by eating the wrong things in a - “well why should I bother “ way so well done you for dealing with it this way. It happens - the body and this condition is a strange thing but remember keep plodding on and sticking at it and you’ll get there.

I wish it would do something else! If my metabolism wants to do something it can flipping well do something useful.

@Rhubarb completely understand your frustration. When I was on hol in Cornwall in July I ate fish every day and was completely happy and never saw such great BG numbers. Maybe after your hols you are the same? I find I can get very wound up by life without even knowing it, just coping. I am putting that and a virus down to my recent run of poor control bcause am not eating dangerously. Diabetes sure does keep you guessing. It wont stay the same for long.

I feel your pain too. My reading have been higher for almost two months now after being so under control. Keep being strong. I’m hoping things will sort themselves out but putting mine down to stress :(

Pre dinner (no food for 5 hours) = 7.8 grrrrr.
So I delayed dinner and went for a hard run. Pushed myself really hard up some steep hills - I may as well use the sugar if I can get it to the muscles; I also wanted to test if I was getting ill. Conclusion was probably not. I ran well. Good time for 9km. At least it used up some angry energy.
Late tea of bolognaise with cauliflower rice and brocolli.
Fast forward two hours: BG = 5.7.
So a good end to the day, and so to bed before the rollercoaster starts again tomorrow.
Thanks all - just needed to shout out loud in a place where people understand.

Shout as loud as you need to, this condition is certainly like being on a rollercoaster, very rarely do we see 2 days the same and sometimes it’s frustrating when we have been well controlled in all aspects to see all our hard work rewarded with high BG numbers!
I have decided that when this happens to me, if there is no obvious reason and I feel physically ok, I’m just going to go with it, surely before diagnosis and self testing our bodies reacted in this way, we were just in a state of ignorant bliss, now we are aware and that in istself brings a little bit of anxiety, feelings of stress and frustration which in turn can raise our numbers.
All we can do is keep trying, keep smiling and having a little rant if we need too.

Thanks - I usually do. I don’t get too worried about 0.5 - 1.0 here or there.
But these numbers have been nudging back to diagnosis levels. Worst day for over 3 months.
Glad it’s ended ok.

But I'm frustrated. Brings some of the upset and fear of diagnosis back to the surface. Want to stay in control but this is reminder that I can only do so much.

I managed 4 years of good control on a low carb diet (< 50gms a day), Hba1C always in the low 40s. Then something changed, my metabolism got much better at using protein it would seem. BG was all over the place and Dawn Phenomena was a right pain in the back side.

Presently I'm vegetarian Monday to Friday, so just eating meat at weekends. I do eat cheese during the week and along with milk (tea/coffee) that's my only source of protein. I eat lots of courgette, onion, mushroom, peppers, aubergine, broccoli, cauliflower, leeks, tomatoes, kale, cabbage, Brussel sprouts. Roasted, steamed, souped, so I don't starve. I'm in the 6s and 7s most of the time.

I think mine is utilising protein too well too. 10s for fbg no matter how much basal insulin. Unless I hit myself with novarapid before bed do I get 6s. Which isn't advisable incase of hypo through night. Toujeo300 isn't ideal insulin for weight loss, it's too clever.

I decided not to have my usual 2 eggs for breakfast this morning to see if it helped. Early reading 7.0 but reading before lunch having fasted for around 16 hours was 8.5. Getting fed up. :(

Suddenly out of the blue today a stomach upset.
Not horrendous but lasted a few hours. Readings back to normal
Feel a bit rubbish but happier that I can put the BG down to something.
This is hard isn’t it?
