I have an age old habit of having 1-2 bananas in breakfast. Now that I have been diagnosed with Type-2, is it advisable to continue with this habit? I have banana has lots of carbs and is not good but many people say it is healthy to eat banana even as a diabetic.

Hey Stemar,
Just googled that banana has 92% carb- one medium banana has 27g carb so i guess having 2 in the morning will leave little budget for carb for the rest of the day..and god knows what will happen to the blood sugar level with such a high dump of carb
So I guess there is more to it than I am getting, i will have to get rid of bananas[/QUOTE

Hi Maria,
Well thats a disappointment as I enjoy the alternative to porridge for breakfast at different times, so I guess we'll need to find a healthyer replacement for breakfast in the future unfortunately. Thank you for informing me about what Google had to say, inrelation to Bananas. So take care and I hope to cross paths again in the future, so by for now.
Stemar, (Downunder)
I think most of us would consider bananas a no-no. The best way to find out for sure is to test before and after eating them to see how you personally are with them.
But as you say, 2 nanas is going to be over 50g carbs - the same as about 3-4 slices of toast.
So Stemar's banana on toast could be over 40g carbs per slice. Many people here don't eat that much all day.
I have things like cheesy scrambled eggs or full fat yogurt with seeds in for breakfast. If you like your fruity flavour in a morning, some blueberies or raspberries in the yogurt would be much better - I buy them frozen and can just take out what I need.
More research- glycemic index is 51 which is low, so it is a absorbed slow. Not all that bad perhaps!!!
@Stemar You posted recently about having a BG of something like 20, then eating 2 slices of toast with bananas and sugar in your tea and then taking a funny turn when out shopping. I'm sorry to sound so blunt about it - but did that not suggest to you that what you'd just eaten wasn't a good food choice for you, especially compounding an already high BG?Stemar said:Well thats a disappointment as I enjoy the alternative to porridge for breakfast at different times, so I guess we'll need to find a healthyer replacement for breakfast in the future unfortunately.
I'm delighted to hear that things are improving for you. It doesn't sound like you're getting much support from medics to know what is good for you to eat, so I'd recommend some research into the nutritional values of foods - especially the carbohydrate value. There are a multitude of books and computer programs that have this information, but just typing 'nutritional value of . . . ' into Google will get you loads of information. But if one isn't aware of the adverse affect a particular piece of fruit has and everything points to them being a good sourse of a way to increase your energie levels. But I know I have to get back on track and since the incedent you reffered to happened, I managed to reduce my BGL's
I get away with eating an apple every day but I still test before I eat one as BG can fluctuate so quickly, I love bananas absolutely but they push me up to 18/20Now I'm compleatly confusedcan I eat apples instead
