Help- having a bit of nightmare with basal doses. I need to gain a better HBA1c result as my recent test was 10.0!!
I was on a spilt dose of Detemir 20 in the morning and 4 at night. I was starting to have night hypos so began reducing the night dose. During the day having done the fasting test my BG were rising to 25mmol around midday and remaining between 13-16mmol throughout.
I've been increasing the daytime basal dose to 25mmol and finding my BGs now at 10.5mmol and I left the night time dose out.
I am experiencing hypos during the early hours of the morning typically around 5am where my sugars go as low as 2.6mmol.
I know the weather is hot and that has an effect plus I eat a low carb diet especially in the evening with salad and grilled meat fish being the only appealing thing in this hot weather but am I missing something here? Hypos during the early hours make you feel rubbish during the day!

Try reducing your basal insulin again and see if that stops the early morning hypo's, failing that ask your DSN if you can change to another basal insulin such as Lantus or Trisiba.

As for your Hba1c, if you haven't been on a carb counting course ask your nurse to put your name down for the next available one, the following is an on-line course similar to DAFNE (Google for more info):

Hi. I can only suggest you keep trying to get the Basal balance as good as you can. I assume you have Bolus insulin as well and do you carb count? This is essential with the HBa1C level you have. Are you overweight? If so this makes insulin management more difficult. You say you low-carb which is the right approach to diet

If you can reduce your basal to give night stability and you can eat something and bolus every 5 hours during the daytime then you may be able to give more bolus to counteract the higher levels that are impacted by lowering your basal for night hypo's.
It may be that you may have to try a change of time for basal or splitting doseage.
