Bendroflumethiazide

I'm managing at present with one tramadol a day which I use for my arthritis. I can increase to two if necessary but I try to take the least possible.

My cardiologist wants me to take bendroflumethiazide. I have read that this sends bg up. Any advice.
I know others have posted about this but I take this drug once a day and have had no BG rises at all and I have been taking it a long time. Not sure what dose you are on as I take it in conjunction with Candesartan so maybe a lower dose than yours, at 2.5mg. I don't find the diuretic action a problem either as that was my initial concern. There are so many drugs on the market it is worth mentioning if it does not work as another drug may work just as well with the same action.

Off the bendroflumethiazide. I have had 4 tablets and unable to sleep last night with the pain in my calf muscle. I phoned the doctors this morning and now been put on doxazosin. I have made an appointment for 4th January. First appointment I could get.
Still got pain but not so bad.
Doxazosin is not a diurectic, it is an Alpha blocker but it is a powerful drug for reducing BP. I also take this for my secondary hypertension (2mg). I found it works well and does not have too many side affects in low doses, but I peed my self on a high dose when I had bad hypertension! Not dignified at all! :) ;) You hurting legs could be low potassium, I hope it has been checked. regards Derek

Potassium was fine in October. Not been checked now. Pain goes away when walking but comes back after sitting for a while. It's lying down that is the main problem.

Potassium is a difficult blood test! One can get a normal result when it is low if the phlebotomist uses a tourniquet or shakes the blood sample.

Been given doxazosin now but reacted to that too. So gone back to my old tablets. Legs still giving me pain when laying down in bed but not as much. Had two nights of disturbed sleep. Hopefully better tonight. Took some paracetamol last night which helped but bg bad today 8.9 at 7.30 now 8.1 before dinner.

  • Doxazosin is a powerful drug and I think you should start on a low dose like 1mg or your bp may collapse and one feels dreadful when B.P drops so quickly. Are you sure you are not getting cramp in your legs? In which case magnesium could help. D.

Yes definitely not cramp. Blood pressure still high. 145/99. Was on 2mg once a day. Seeing GP after holiday. Going away on 30th.

Sounds like your nerve @1954jessy . Use painkillers til gp appointment but make sure gp aware your having leg/s pain.

I did talk to GP about the pains and all she was worried about was were they swollen. No they weren't. I will look after myself and hopefully will get sorted out in the new year.

When do you next see your diabetes nurse or diabetes consultant? The nerve might be playing up due to diabetes. Highlight to your diabetes team hun.
Any numbness in toes?

Had a little bit of tingling in my toes. Don't see them until march. Will mention it to the doctor when I see him.
