Hi

What are the best books to buy to learn more about the physiology of diabetes and best diets for type 1 diabetics living in the UK.

I am using a pump at the moment and I suddenly feel a bit clueless as to why I am seeing a rise in my readings that are normally fine with the food I eat. Especially the morning ones (nothing above 9). Do change basal? It's currently set to 0.1 and my ratio is 1:15carbs, sometimes 1:20 if I am due a big workout.

Also, I can feel the insulin stinging when it goes in and I couldn't feel that before a couple of days ago. Any ideas why??

Thanks for your help.

Also the mighty Dr Bernstein's 'Diabetes Solution' and Jenny Ruhl's Blood Sugar 101 give you very useful takes on the condition.

Bernstein is the low-carb guru and Ruhl is Type 2 but has a very good head on her shoulders and provides some really good information.

I like Think Like A Pancreas too; it's very informative but like Bernstein's book it's aimed at the US market so keep that in mind, but lots of good stuff in there.

As a pump user a good book for you would be Pumping Insulin by John Walsh, however I agree with the other guys that Think Like a Pancreas by Gary Scheiner is an excellent all round book for people living with type 1 diabetes.
