best meter

Ok I'm in the market for a new BG meter

What's the thoughts as far as best meter goes.. not the cheapest

If cost was not an issue, then what would you go for and why?

we recently went on a choice course ( kids version of dafne) and were given a meter which we were told was dear to buy but it has a bolus wizard which is great if u dont have a head for numbers :D
anyway after a month or so of use i love it and have put all other meters away in a cupboard lol its called the accu-chek aviva expert

I like the accu-chek aviva nano because it is smaller than all other meters that I've seen.

Whichever meter you decide on, I'd recommend the accu-chek lancet device (multiclix) to go with it, it's far better than other lancet devices.

I've always used accu-chek meters and found them very reliable, the accu-chek nano is a great little meter and I highly recommend it.

I use Lifescan products. My main meter is the OneTouch UltraSmart which I think is about the best going, on screen graphs and loads of information can be stored or loaded on to a PC for printing out all sorts of charts/graphs etc. It's available for free from Lifescan if you meet the criteria. Frequent testing seems to be most important.

I keep a One Touch UltraEasy in the car as it uses the same strips.

Both seem very accurate and consistent although I only ever use one at a time.

i currently do have a Onetouch ultrasmart, i dont know why, but i just dont really like it.. i guess im just being fussy

looks nice, but its not available to purchase without a recommendation from a HCP.. i have to see my HCP in may, who then wants to book me onto a course of some form, so i guess thats the time to see if there is one to play with for a while. before making the decision to try and obtain one!
 
I'll add my tick to the AccuChek Nano too .. mainly because the display is illuminated and the way its infra red window 'talks' to my laptop via its infra red port without any wires or plugs etc. When I enquire about a 2nd one to keep in my bag for when out and about, they sent me another kit totally FOC by the next available posting day.
I really cannot fault Roche and their AccuChek department :D
 
we agreed to try it for a trial so got it free from roche rep he was very helpful, its not the smallest meter but what it does more than makes up for it :D

Correct me if I am wrong.....isn't your child on a pump ? I thought that the 'expert' meter was supplied with the pump and is not available generally. I know it is supplied with new pumps but I think it is now called the 'Combo'.

As they don't usually supply pumps to T2's then searley might not be able to get one at all if the NICE guidelines are followed to the letter.
 
From what I have read, the expert is based on the combo,but is stand alone running a modified software for standalone use

In mycase I think it would be more gadget than anything else when really I want accurate and reliable

Doesn't hurt to look though
 
Let us know if you manage to get hold of one .........I'm a gadget freak too.

They don't seem to be available anywhere other than from Accu-Chek along with the pump as far as I can make out. Two separate but combined items.
 
no ours was stand alone we didnt have the pump when we got the meter everyone on the course was given one, dylans pump isnt the one that goes with the meter anyway but he loves the meter gives him some independence working out the bolus for himself :D

Oh well......I wonder where on earth you get them from then ??? Do they only hand them out to pumpers ? You have been on the course, ideal time/place to hand one over. Interesting. :?
 
I had an email from accu-chek, the are stand alone, available direct at £120 but only with HCP approval

Is it any more accurate than any other meter I wonder. :|
 
not one of the people on the course used an insulin pump and none but us were considering a pump in the future so dont think it was a condition of having it , i think we were the first group to be given them so was a case of right time right place for us i think. didnt realise they cost that much tho good grief i would of been nervous to use it had i known but so confident with it now i dont worry the graphs it gives u on the meter help monitor ur levels well too like i say not really small but we like it

Doubt it, they use the same test strips as the other aviva
Meters

i have read positive things about the wavesense jazz and its accuracy and they have a Bluetooth version
