If you take enough of it, it might kill you, The same as drinking too much water, it too can be fatal.Don’t use ingredients apart from spices etc, always cook from fresh. But yes if on the rare occasion I do use something from a jar/can/packet I always scrutinise it, the term “fatal” is a bit strong though - it MAY increase your blood glucose- it’s not the case for everyone but I doubt it will kill anyone with one portion, even T1 who will be injecting for carbs I presume will be able to manage rises etc
Some time ago I remember someone incurred the wrath of the Mods for saying they considered carbohydrates to be poisonous. If you take enough of it, it might kill you,
It is fatal just to be alive! If you take enough of it, it might kill you, The same as drinking too much water, it too can be fatal.
I totally agree, it is misleading and I've been caught out a few times. Didn't kill me though, made me a little peeved because my blood sugar was higher than I like, but still here, not dead. (yet)What’s most misleading is that this bulking agent is found in many granulated artificial sweeteners (eg the little sachet type in cafes etc) leading a less informed diabetic into thinking it’s totally innocuous blood glucose wise.
Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just passing on the warnings. from 2 sources. The one above in the original post and the one below. Some time ago I remember someone incurred the wrath of the Mods for saying they considered carbohydrates to be poisonous.
I will be amazed if they let you get away with saying that FDA approved food additives could kill.
It’s interesting, because what I take from here. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/322426#is-maltodextrin-safeIt is fatal just to be alive!
Hi,Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just passing on the warnings. from 2 sources. The one above in the original post and the one below.
You've just now posted a link to something that says maltodextrin is "inert and generally is regarded as safe by the US FDA". I am no fan of maltodextrin as a stealth carb but this seems to contradict your earlier claim concerning maltodextrin causing a BG spike that can be fatal. Do you have information about fatalities caused by maltodextrin that you have not shared?"A critically important new study by Laudisi et al1 shows that consumption of the food additive maltodextrin, incorporated into many processed foods, leads to the promotion of intestinal inflammation. These findings suggest that this broadly used food additive could be a risk factor for chronic inflammatory diseases"........Intestinal inflammation and chronic inflammatory diseases are the last things any diabetic needs.
The purpose of the screen shot was to highlight where the word fatal came from......The offer of alternative complex carbs, or any other form of carbs is a definite no no for me. I personally don't need them.Hi,
You mean the one linked here.. I’m not a huge fan of screenshots taken out of context.. https://www.webmd.com/diet/what-is-maltodextrin
Oddly, both sites seem to offer complex carbs as an alternative?? Which I happen to know is neither of our “bag.”
That link was about the risk factors for chronic inflammatory diseases"........Quote: "Intestinal inflammation and chronic inflammatory diseases are the last things any diabetic needs". The BG spike that can be fatal is not my claim, it's the WebMD Editorial Contributors claim. You chose to post it here. I would expect anyone posting something as dramatic as "can be fatal" would be able to back it up. I know enough about it thank you, I'm a victim of misleading and hidden ingredients as I presume many others are and have been over the years. The can be fatal quote came from https://www.webmd.com/webmd-editorial-contributors, If you want to know more about the "can be fatal" quote ask them. Do your own research, then get back to me when you get an answer from them. I've cancelled several orders and asked for refunds many times in the past for their misleading ingredient lists My last cancellation was 3 days ago. I'm still waiting for them to respond. You chose to post it here. I would expect anyone posting something as dramatic as "can be fatal" would be able to back it up. You are missing the point. The question being asked of you is why you chose to use that quote - using the dramatic claim of fatal if you personally have no knowledge of, cannot support and perhaps might not even agree with it?If you want to know more about the "can be fatal" quote ask them. I would have thought that anyone posting a dramatic claim that something "can be fatal" on these forums should be able to substantiate that claim themselves rather than having to ask readers to try to do it. The link you've provided in any event does not have the quote on it and neither does it have anything about maltodextrin or even diabetes.I know enough about it thank you, I'm a victim of misleading and hidden ingredients as I presume many others are and have been over the years.
