I could not agree more, and I wish Dr. Malhotra every success in his mission on this very serious and very needed argument on this subject, I heard on the grapevine, the American College third hand news that they now feel like changing the levels for A1C cut offs to 7 to 8% instead of the current one should be below 7%.also on another area cholesterol, its on the grapevine there too to reduce to 130 instead of 140, how many more people will suddenly become cholesterol patients and require meds, the diabetes levels were once if I understand correctly 140mg/dl down to 130, then down to 120 to 110, and now some countries use 100, so by such lowering of numbers is one to presume, that its the pharmas who are diagnosing us and not the doctors is the concerning doubt question, so I applaud and praise Dr. Malhotra on his mission to thrash this out regards lawmakers change of criteria policies within the health industry. Lifestyle and diet are to be pushed worldwide

I too wish Dr Malhotra every success with his argument. Taking on the food and pharma industries needs to be done. I find it shocking how figures are always being messed with so more drugs can be prescribed.
As a type 2 diabetic, I am also dismayed at the amount of ‘healthy’ foods are not at all. The one that springs to mind is the amount of sugar in a fruit yoghurt. I have only noticed this as I have become more careful about what I eat.
The myths that we have been told over the years need to be laid bare to tackle current health problems.

Totally agree and wish there was more focus on prevention of our chronic disease rather than merely cires for more NHS cash to deal with the symptoms. You might be interested to see That Sugar Film which discusses this in a very entertaining way! 1 man goes onto a high sugar diet eating mainstream standard food and not sweets to see just what happens to his body.
It is interesting to see the media reaction to the sugar tax too e.g. The Times supports an extension of the tax into foodstuffs whereas The Sun has gone for a 'hands off our grub' (nanny state) approach.

I had never heard of him until today, his cause is a worthy one and I do hope he gets success and gets the EU and UK to take note and act.

It would make for much healthier nations and less money spent on medications, saving money long term.

Having Googled him, I see he has travelled a long road with his cause, and even if he manages to get EU to take notice, the big companies have deep pockets to lobby, and are likely to drum up support with threat of job losses etc.

One can but hope for his success, even if it is just for a better educated public when buying any foods and understanding the sugar content.

Sadly, not affecting us after next year.

It may be that UK chooses to adopt certain EU laws and standards post Brexit, for harmonisation of medical standards.

No one knows what negotiations have been going on behind closed doors, away from the glare of the limelight of the press. Until, the UK has left the EU, we are all guessing

I really do not want to turn this into a political argument. It is a major health concern that affects us all, not just the whole of Europe, but the whole of the world. Please, no political undertones.

It is up to each separate country to formulate their health systems and nutrition advice. This thing today was seen as an opportunity to speak to all the Europeans together rather than each one separtaely

The big problem is that the majority of University research is funded by big pharma, the food lobby or other commercial interests. One good example is the Eat Well Guide driven by PHE but based on university research funded by the food lobby.. With so many (too many?) university professors looking for 'research' to do to support PhDs etc they end up in the hands of commercial interests. I don't know how you overcome that but it invalidates so much of what we are told. The USA has recently reduced the level at which BP tablets are indicated from 140/n to 130/n. I had to argue with my cardiologist who wanted to follow this new 'standard' which I refused. It just goes on...

Yes, we are. The same lobbyists who are at work in the EU are working in the UK too. John Major was blackmailed by the food industry into giving up plans to reduce salt levels when they threatened to withdraw donations.

Yes, we really must take the politics out of politics

Nathan Gill isn’t actually a Westminster MP, he’s an MEP for a Welsh constituency.

Which is why he was able to set it up, I imagine..
I am world's apart from his personal politics, but all credit to him (as an enlightened diabetic himself) for taking all this nutrition rubbish on board. Let's all hope something comes of it all.

Well, yes. I’m completely at the opposite end of the political spectrum, but I did email him to offer my thanks and support.
