Bit of a struggle!

Okay I'm in a bit of a muddle today!

I woke up with a blood sugar reading of 7 pre breakfast shake but didn't get to test my bloods until my break (around 15:00-16:00) when they were 7.9 but I've been munching on cheese on my break.
I then tested my bloods around 2 hours after I had eaten some salad with few bits of couscous (not much)and (3 hours after small bowl of mushy peas) at 20:00 (finished my shift)
And they were 8.6 (bit high I know!)
When I actually got home at around 20:30 they have shot up to 10.9?! But I've not eaten anything for hours?!
I have just retested them again and they are 10.2 45 mins later?! I don't know what to do :(
I've not eaten anything carby or sugary for ages and have been on my feet?!

Help please

I'm panicking x
Hi charlotte, sorry your not feeling so good, sometimes our livers give us more glucose when were least expecting it, sometimes known as the dawn phenomenon, but it can also kick n when were very tired from a long day,try drinking plenty and get some rest, keep posting and let us know how your doing, clive

I'm feeling quite upset about it all really as I'm really trying my best to keep my blood sugars down

Sick of crying tonight tbh! I'm just so worried about my bloods. I had such a stressful shift at work today felt like I didn't stop!

I'm gonna try sleep ASAP and drink some squash
I've got an early shift tomorrow I'm up at 5:45 for work at 7-2.50 so
Then another 7-8pm shift on Sunday.

I think my bloods were better on nights!

Hey I had my appointment with the diabetic doctor today well specialist and my test results for type 1 or 1.5 came back negative? So she is going to try me with a different medication. Something that gets injected and makes u lose weight. Not insulin mind u! Apparently I'm too overweight which is nice ha!

I woke up really late tho? X

My bloods went from 5.2 to 10.7 (2 hours after having my shake. I mix my powder with milk is that why my my bloods are so erratic? 400ml milk with powder)

Thanks x

Evening CharlotteLouise2468, it could be the sugar in the milk, try single cream,no carbs and makes lovely shakes, what are the carb/ proteins in your shake?

I'm trying a mixture of soya milk 300ml and 100ml of normal milk just to balance flavour. 5g sugar is better then nearly 20g!

Charlotte, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will come along but I have a feeling that too much protein can cause blood sugars to rise. My gut feeling is that these shakes aren't doing much for you, your levels seem to rise afterwards so it would seem to be connected. Mushy peas won't help either. I can see that you are in a job that leaves you little time, but I honestly think you aren't getting the right nutrients that you need somehow. If there is time to have small bowl of peas, I'm sure you could have a small bowl of something that will do your body a bit more good:)
There is a new thread that has opened on here for vegetarians, why not have a look? Maybe making food up in advance could help you, all this must be pretty stressful. Don't get upset though, there are ways forward, we can try and help. x

Spot on @ladybird64. Unfortunately, the volumes of pure protein in these forms of shake cause the body to start to convert some of it to glucose, and type 1s and type2s are susceptible to this at a greater rate than non-diabetic people. It is likely to be this causing the issues, and could easily be compounded with dawn phenomenon.

I've stopped having the shakes so much as the taste is making me feel sick.
It's because at work we get to eat for free and the only thing that was suitable was mushy peas- fish n chips or pasta so I thought small bowl wouldn't do me any harm.

Hello charlottelouise2468, would you be able to get an omelette at work, say cheese,or prawn salad maybe?ps have a word with @ azure about pregnancy, clive

I don't eat fish
I can't cook at work /: I work in healthcare so I don't always get my break x

It's a tough job you're doing, I know time for breaks are short - or non existant.
But that is all the more reason to prepare your food at home, so you have stuff you can eat on the move. Crustless quiche can be eaten cold, hard boiled eggs, cold meat such as chicken or ham (I like salami), bits of cheese..there are lots of possibilities. You just need to think outside the box :)
