Blood Glucose Meter

I have recently been given the Fine test Lite meter by my diabetic nurse, I was previously using a Carsens.
I have not been able to get on with the lance pen, even on 5 it isn't going deep enough most of the time. I emailed the manufacturer and they sent me a different pen, still the same result. I rang them today and they apologised and said if I still had the pen from the Caresens meter their lances will fit and I can use this on instead. I set my Caresens pen at 2/2.5 and get blood no problem.

Its okay for the NHS to change products if they are cheaper but its a pain (or not) when the pens don't go deep enough to get blood for the test strips.

I have often kept the pens/lancing devices I like (admittedly I don't change the lancets very often), chat to you DN/doctor, they might leave the lancets for you Caresens pen on your prescription if you request so especially if you are having problems with the new one.

Yes, there's no need to use the lancing device supplied with the meter. Personally, after more than 30 years of testing I don't even use a device, I just take a naked lancet and stab :). It may seem a little brutal, but makes for less paraphernalia to carry round.

I use the pen i got with contour with the code free i recently bought no problems so far and the bonus is the code free doesnt seem to need as much blood to get a reading, win win situation :)

I got a lancer I liked about 4 meters ago and still use it - the other flimsy things went straight into the bin (with the bulky meter case).

Yes. I too use the pen which came with the code free and it's very good. I only change the lancet when it gets so blunt that it just bounces off the skin:) You can buy 50 test strips on line for less that £8 too.
