Blood Glucose Readings

Hello All
I have recently been diagnosed Type 2 and been prescribed Metformin 1000mg.
I am at a loss to understand the readings on my glucose monitor which shows a mmol/L number and my GP told me a HbA1c number.
I have found this to be very confusing. Can anyone explain these numbers to this dumbo please?

@scottwd the HBA1c level is a reflection on how high the concentration of glucose in your blood has been over the previous months, with 41 being the top end of normal and 48 where a diagnosis of diabetes would come.

The number shown on a glucose monitor is the reading at that time. Usually used to compare the before and after levels for a meal, for type 2s. It hepls with chosing a diet which keeps your levels in the normal range.
