so my dad should have called 999 if his sugar level was at 24 even though he doesnt seem to have high blood sugar symptoms
true or faulse

Hi,
My levels are at 25 and I went to my GP, was told they will be high as I'm newly diagnosed.
I agree very high, best to contact out of hours or 111.
I had symptoms of being very thirsty, urinating loads, headache, lethargy.
Have you checked his BM again and checked his finger is clean?
It's usual to get symptoms,

I read somewhere that if around 15 it is important to seek professional guidance and help.

We could not possibly guess - yes 24 is not good - that is mmol/l I assume, but what had he eaten, and when - is he type one or two, what are his usual readings what medication is he on?

Hes a type 2 not sure what medication hes on but over the years his blood sugar to me seems worrying and i dont know how i should help him

maybe help him to eat more cheese and meat and vegs avocado with shrimps, pork scratchings , eggs and bacon

but not bread and potatoes, pasta and sweets and cake and any sugary drink.

has he ketones at 24 i would be very worried. if your gp is not taking it seriously contact the hospitals diabetic clinic. hoe levels need to come down quickly. you need to find out what his treatment is and make sure he is taking it. if its not working i think insulin will be needed. i know type 2 are less likely to become acidotic but i would not leave it for too long.

diet in the long term this is more urgent a med review and more support. at the very least. he wont be feeling great at those levels. plus its harming him.

and no flipping sugar and low carb. he needs to understand the results of bad management are really not nice. lost legs blindness and other nasties.

Perhaps your mum could help by trying to ensure that those too many sugary things are no longer available in the house for him to eat?

I would advise that you get together with your Mum and see to it that your father sees a health care professional as soon as possible as those levels are far too high. It seems that he is unaware of the risks of high blood glucose in the long term, these can have irreversible consequences.

I personally have never been to a GP/hospital and through my teenage years I was constantly high (neglected my bloods because I was very stupid and am suffering consequences now, trust me) I still get bloods now and then that are in 20’s if I’ve done something wrong, ate something high in sugar and I simply do a correction dose and drink LOTS of water and they come down within a couple hours, it is very important to check for ketones and naturally if
He feels okay then I don’t think calling 999 is necessary at all, however without more information it is hard to say. I’m young and am pretty in control of things, it may be different for an older person, hope this has helped somewhat x
