Blood sugars

My blood lipid panel results all improved greatly when I went LCHF.
Lots of olive oil, peanut butter, walnut oil, fish, cooked tomatoes and salads work wonders.

I eat lots of salad meat and veg, my co workers always envy my creations i take for lunch but i always love a baked potato or wholewheat pasta too, i just think i get bored eating the same things, i love eggs but not without toast, i just think its all such hard work when i am already busy busy as an A&E nurse and gp practice nurse, just fed up with it all

I dont eat junk food, like the odd curry or chinese, no ready meals or pizza , i just cant imagine doimg without some carbs

Some breads are worse than others I usually have "Uovo Toscana" for brunch )-- eggs cooked in the style of Tuscany.
Fried eggs (actually cooked the oven) with tomatoes red onion, basil, rosemary, garlic loads of olive oil served on a little toasted Italian bread (usually Focaccia) topped with Rocket and loads of Olive oil and a little Balsamic glaze.
The oil and greens reduce the impact of the bread and it looks and tastes fabulous.

Many of us have had same thoughts...but the plain and simple fact is..Type 2 diabetes is down to fact that we are carbohydrate intolerants. Once you get your head around that carbs are the culprits that make you body poorly...it makes sense to avoid them as much as possible. It doesn't matter what form the carbs take..whole wheat or white, fruit or certain veg...sugar..etc...when there is carbs in food we eat, our body's will respond to them. However there is difference between sources how much our body's react to them and that you will only find out by testing you blood sugars before and after eating. Eventually you will recognize which sources are more suited to you and how much you can tolerate them in different quantities.
We've had to learn to substitute those carb sources for something more suitable....what we love and are used to in our old diets have had to go and maybe they can be introduced back later on (occasionally/smaller quantities)once our body's have responded to new lifestyle and are less intolerant again.
But it is all down to you and your decisions.
I have been following NHS diet advise 20+ years...and it didn't make me any better. All the 'good' advise with 'healthy carbs' just didn't work and over time my diabetes progressed into taking more and more medicines....and I was always to blame for it for not doing as I was told. Fast forward to present day...following LCHF diet, just like others, I've been able to come off some medications, my blood sugar levels improved considerably, taking less insulin, lost some weight..all down to giving up with carbs and swapping them into oily things/fats. I really don't feel that I'm going without or the food is boring!
When I'm looking at food now I'm seeing 'fuel'...when I'm feeling temptation coming on...I think of scales where other side there is pile of drugs and other side there is some tasty 'fuel'..which is more tempting? I'll choose to have less drugs any day.

Lindy1706 brilliantly summarised a helpful way forward in her earlier response. I've just finished watching the Diabetes Summit 2016 - which was extremely helpful. Here's a link to a few useful audio interviews which I think You'll find helpful.

Hi again. I know it goes against what you have been taught within the NHS, but fat is not the monster as another poster said. Much of the data about fat we have been fed is based on invalid research analysis. If you have some fat in your diet together with the lower carbs and look at your cholesterol breakdown in the future, not the total which is irrelevant, you should find your LDL, HDL and Trig ratios improve and these ratios help determine your circulatory risk and not the total. BTW beans are great and very healthy but they do contain carbs so include them in your daily total.

It's up to you if you feel you prefer to have some carbs like bread, pasta and potatoes but as your BG seems to be rather high post prandial you may want to talk to your GP about medication in order to control your BG.

Personally I have chosen the LCHF (lots of butter!) route and am very happy with my almost perfect cholesterol and HbA1c of 32, no meds.
