Sounds like your son may be coming down with something or may just be getting over ketones from higher levels......
Are you aware to test for ketones if above 12.0? Have you got a ketone meter or strips?
To get a pump its great if you can get a meter that will allow you to practice really.. Ie with carb bolus's, corrections etc..
I know my accucheck aviva expert meter is identical to my old accuchek combo pump meter...
I would first off ask for this (or a similar meter)....I'm not sure which other meters do the same. Some are like yours and pretty basic.
The reasoning behind my advice is: it would allow you to record the injections in the meter, if high it would tell you or childminder how much correction insulin to give your son. You would learn how to make tweaks to the settings in the meter to get better results.
If you got a meter like this it would also be a back up if your new pump ever broke...(providing you keep data up to date).
Is son having 2 basal injections a day or 1?
