Blurry vision

Hi

I'm type 2 diabetic, I've been controlling my diet recently and got my blood sugar down to 6.8, but still have blurred vision during the night. During the day when the sun is out. I can see everything clearly but when it gets dark things get blurry.

Anyone else have this problem?

Dave

One random blood sugar reading is not giving us much to go on Dave. Can you tell us a little more? When was this reading taken? Before food? After food? What is you reading when your vision is blurry? What type of diet and meds are you on?

Hi so I wasnt sure what my reading was before. About 2 weeks ago came back from holiday and had a few drinks. Then I started to notice things getting blurry, so I knew its cause of my diabeties. So I've been on a low carb diet for about 8 days now and started to notice the vision started to get better during the day when the sun was out, but during the night time things were blurry. Blurry when something is far, its clear when I'm close to something. I went to walk in centre this morning and did the blood sugar test .where I got my reading from. I'm on metformin now as well. Thanks for getting back to me. Appreciate it.

We can't give medical advice, and it may be caused by several things. Poor night vision can be caused by ageing or by Vitamin A deficiency, cataracts or astigmatism.
But what makes you sure it is diabetes related?
- If you are right, then how long is it since your last Diabetes Retinopathy eye exam?

In any case, consult your doctor.

It’s good that you have taken action and your sight is better during the day. However you need to check your blood sugar when your vision is blurry. Just a guess but I’m wondering if your food choices are making your blood sugars increase as the day goes on, resulting in blurry vision by evening time? You won’t know without some methodical testing just before and two hours after first bite of each meal though. And just to check, can you tell us what you ate today as an example of your diet please. Oh and if your eye sight doesn’t settle down it might be worth getting an eye test.

So this afternoon meal replacement shake and I had grilled chicken and a avocado for my dinner.
Thanks again. I'm thinking maybe this might get better as days go by. I just thought it's strange as clear during the day by blurred during the night time. When there's less light. I googled and the first thing I saw was cataract haha. So I just got a bit concerned really.
Thanks for replying back again

Some meal replacement shakes can be a bit carby. I've found my bg spikes much more quickly with a shake. I think because the 'food' is in powder form, and U drink it, it is easily processed and the sugars in the shake pass into the blood soon after ingestion. As @Rachox says, worth testing when you're blurry. It might not be diabetes?
