Bp: Stubborn Systolic

He doesn't argue the cholesterol case! There is more involved. If someone with metabolic syndrome has an high inflammatory marker re: high CRP, this is linked to CVD.
Statins apparently cut down the inflammatory response considerably.
I only found this out recently, hence one has to follow the science not doctrine.

But you and I should have reversed our metabolic syndrome.:) ;)

I would counter Phinney with who needs statins? And likewise I wouldn't take them..

My own personal cocktail of drugs (Doxyzosin, Lisinopril and Amlodopine) seems to keep my numbers very close to the 120/80 mark, very occasionally higher systolic combined with lower diastolic (130/70). There was a time when my GP was more concerned about diastolic readings than systolic, and although now treats both with the same concern, she isn't too concerned about my occasional "blips".
Watch doxazosin Graham, the ALLHAT study in the States didn't recommend it use in the early 2000s.

Its an alpha blocker, it does bring BP down, but causes heart failure and fluid retention. I know it's on the GP protocol in the UK but my Cardiologist stopped me using it because I had heart failure.

Watch doxazosin Graham,

Thanks for the warning, I certainly know about the fluid retention, so does my GP. I'm also aware that Amlodopine may cause weight gain. A concern close to my heart . . . literally. I think I'll be checking with my GP for a review of my meds. Not entirely sure of any alternatives.

Hi David
Ask him if a potassium sparing diuretic would help?

What can help naturally with blood pressure is quality sleep, weight loss, hand grips, walking and food (magnesium, potasium). Doing this I have been able to avoid meds and have reduced from 140 / 80 to circa 125 -, 130 / 72 -75.

I do occasionally get a systolic of around 137 after heavy weights, but this is normal for this type of exercise.
