Checked my blood pressure on one of them machines in the health centre today and the reading was 158/64, anyone know if this is in the "no worries range" someone did mention in the HC that 120/80 was more normal.

I would demand a recount - 158 is high & 64 is low. Don't trust that result.

Hi suffolkb

Most Drs. and Endos like diabetics to have 120/80 or under. Blood pressure does fluctuate throughout the day and that is why most Drs will take a few readings over time before deciding if it is too high. There is also the white coat syndrome with some patients.

Is this a lower/higher reading than you have been experiencing?

Catherine.

One thing that occasionally happens is to be fitted with a 24 hour monitor, that takes a reading every 30/60 minutes for a single 24 hour period. You are not restricted at all, can go about your normal day etc. - in fact it is recommended that you do so - but they do suggest you don't go out on the lash the night before the test starts... The graph that results from this can give a better indication of what is happening to your bp over an "average" day, whatever one of those is, and assist in prescribing an appropriate medication if required.

I'm with Ian - It looks a funny result and I'd get a recheck done.

Better still, if you have any concerns, why not buy a home testing unit? They aren't very expensive.

Best wishes - John

Well did Bp again this morning and reading is 139/74 so is in pre high blood pressure.

I think your chart came from here, it might help those who are concerned about Blood Pressure to have a read of these pages from the Blood Pressure Association.

You need to remember that as Diabetic's the levels are slightly different from normal and it also raises your risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and other health problems. Having high blood pressure also raises this risk. If you have diabetes and high blood pressure together, this raises your risk of health problems even more.

If you have diabetes, your doctor will want to be sure that your blood pressure is very well controlled.

This means that they will probably want your blood pressure to be below 130 over 80.

This is the bit that is specific relating to BP and Diabetes.
