i KNOW this might sound daft and i am soory if has been covered before , what type of bread should i eat .Sorry i am type 2 with poor control. I am realy trying to get on top of it but my blood sugers hover around 12 13

Bread is not good for diabetics as it sends your glucose levels high I can tolerate Bergen soya linseed bread but only 2 slices at a meal and usually have just 2 slices in a day .You can buy it at many supermarkets but Iceland seems to be cheapest at £1 per loaf .Hope this helps Always test after any new food to see how it affects YOU

Burgen bread is actually quite nice and lasts quite well (which it needs to do if you only have a slice or two per day). It freezes ok too.

It's around 11g carbs per slice - so about half of normal white bread.

I do tend to avoid bread - but I realise this is not easy for some. Spelt bread can be ok as well, but if you don't bake your own it can be a bit pricey.

I think Burgen Soya & Linseed bread is your best bet or Nimfor spees you ble, but the slices are flimsy. If you want to be able to eat more bread, thicker slices then you could try baking your own low carb bread, there are quite a few recipes in the low carb recipes section of this forum.
I regularly bake the white bread from the NZ forum (Its alsao posted in the recipe section) and the German style low carb breads, for speed you cant beat the 3 minute microwave bread.
I am sure that you can find something to suit you.

Hi Riodad, I am one of those people who jusst love bread and was basically brought up to eat it as a "filler" but now I am type 2 diabetic I find that I cannot eat any supermarket bread as when I test afterwards my blood glucose rises significantly, even Burger Soya and Linseed does this to me. So i'm afraid now I don't eat any bread but please look in the LOW CARB section and then LOW CARB RECIPES, there is much inspirational recipes there including making some low carb bread, regards, Debra x

I'd say none, but then I'm wheat intollerant. I just don't need it. I have a small loaf of gluten free bread in my freezer for when I'd like cheese on toast or eggy bread but most of the time it just sits there in the freezer.

Another shout for Burgen, tastes OK but makes rubbish toast IMO but I can eat a sandwich and an apple for lunch and my levels return to almost premeal levels at the 2 hour point.

Now I have good control I find I can also eat Tesco Rustic Mutigrain bread and 'get away with it' but I do buy the small loaf so it makes a similar sized sandwich to the Burgen. Makers nicer toast too which is good when I have egg on toast for breakfast occasionally.

I'm afraid the real answer though is to try a few breads and test before and after eating and see what results you get personally but as a rule of thumb the lower the breads carb and GI value the better

I prefer mine toasted as it brings out the flavour in the seeds :)

I concur on burgen bread, but would advise a poorly controlled T2 to go on a very low carb diet, even if just for a while until control is established.
That means eat mainly leafy veggies and proteins and fats. leave out; bread, other baked goods, rice, potatoes, pasta .
You may find you can add a little back in once you have control.
There's no effective difference between, wholemeal bread and white,or brown and white rice and pasta for diabetics.
If you ask the Health care people for help, the odds are they will want you to increase your medication.
I personally think that large doses of several medications are dangerous.

tried the burgen will take some getting used to also tried hovis nimble a bit better but not very filling any way thanks for the advise

I tried this Burgen bread today for the first time with a ham sandwich and a tomato cuppa soup and 2 hours later i registered 5.4. This is fantastic as when i did the same with gluten free breat got a figure of 9.4 which shocked me as i hadnt been that high since diagnosis last July. I didnt get the usual stomach ache after eating bread either. Result!!!
