Tried a slice of LivLife today with 2 eggs, 2 sausage, tomato and mushrooms. With milk in tea came in at 11g carbs. Also I take various supplements fron iHerb. By the way here great variety of the promocodes. After that CGM shows it has only gone up 1.4 in an hour to 6.9.

And it was a lot more enjoyable than porridge!

It's great to hear that you are finding healthy and enjoyable ways to manage your diabetes. Keep it up!

Thank you. I think they were suggesting that high saturated fat caused the Type 2 condition, not that it had any effect on blood sugar levels.

I was recommended (at diagnosis) to go for a low carb diet (under 125g per day) but also to reduce saturated fat. Unfortunately, a lot of the diet advice is conflicting and doesn’t seem to take fibre into account, which I need to keep above 30g per day whatever else I do.

The CGM is helping me understand what spikes (so far porridge and drinks containing milk).
I was urged to stick to a low fat diet for decades after a test showed high glucose - but I was never told that.
I stuck rigidly to a high carb low fat diet, and after almost 2 years I was told I was a very bad diabetic, so I would strongly contest that saturated fat causes diabetes - in the years since diagnosis I can claim to be close to normal levels and I eat saturated fat all the time, and red meat, full fat yoghurt - I cook frozen stir fry or courgettes in butter, yet my numbers remain normal.
I don't eat any fibre at all some days - doesn't seem to matter a bit.

Okay so I've discovered Linseed porridge.

Ingredients
32g linseed
25g almonds
15g protein powder
Water (enough)
80g raspberries
5g oat fibre
10g chia seeds

1. Blend 1/2 the linseed, oat fibre, protein powder and all the almonds with water (a few cups) for a few minutes to make the "milk"
2. Add the rest of the linseed for half a minute (until it's more roughly ground)
3. Put the "milk" porridge mixture in a pan for a few minutes over heat. I add cacao, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg etc. Add more water if needed.
4. Mix the raspberries with chia to make a "jam"
5. Put the porridge in a bowl and add the chia raspberries. I added a little sugarfree syrup today.

So it's not exactly the same as oats but I enjoyed it. Makes a change from eggs every day.

25g fibre, 30g protein and only 7g carbs.

BG was 5.3 before eating it and 5.2 a couple of hours after, Win.

Hba1c test on Monday...

Hello, I was diagnosed type 2 in July (result was 53) after a few years of rising HbA1c levels not highlighted by GP. Not medicated & so decided to "find my own way" seeking advice online etc.

Recently trying a CGM which shows I wake up with 5.9 reading, which fluctuates all day around 7. Breakfast spikes 12.2 for an hour or so after eating. This is water porridge with 30g high fibre oats, no sweetener. So I figure I have to eat something else. Avoiding anything with saturated fat as I was advised that caused it in the first place so I don't think I can have eggs or yoghurt. Other meals seem okay (lots of salad etc and no refined carbs at all), most of the time the measurement is under 10.

Short of eating plain faxseed, chia and water for breakfast, anything else allowed that won't spike blood sugar this way and doesn't have saturated fat in it? What do people have for breakfast?

My next blood test is end Oct would like to get the result down if I can by then.

Many thanks.

Hi Justcantfindaname (like it!)
Just to add to the other messages here. I was 114 in June & got down to 44 by September & have lost nearly a stone. This was with a low(ish) carb diet - 140g a day & keeping calories well under 2000. I have actually increased my fats, protein & fibre of course. Cooking from scratch & fresh food & I am self funding a CGM so I can see exactly what spikes me (wheat flour sadly) & what easy substitutes I can make (dates instead of sweets) . I highly recommend a monitor as everyone is different (eg I can tolerate slightly cooled pasta which most people can’t but not bread even heavily seeded whole meal). Fats & protein keep you full & stop any sugar/ carb cravings.
