Hi it depends on what kind of diet you are following to prevent diabetes. If you get a meter you can find out how different breakfasts affect you.

Porridge works for some people ok but not me unfortunately. I was suspicious that it did not fill me up like I expected and when I tested at 13mmol/l two hours later I realised it is more a once a year treat.

Ummm......

That list seems a bit carbohydrate heavy to be diabetes friendly (T2, that is).

How about the old favourite eggs, bacon, mushroom tomato, 90%+ pork sausage.

Hmmm...

Ham and eggs
Cheese omellete
Scrambled eggs (hold the toast)

Lidl roll for those who like bread but not many carbohydrates.

Coffee with butter and double cream.

Personally I find that a big mug of coffee with butter and double cream sees me through to at least mid-day.

As has been said, it depends very much on how your brekky affects your readings and your chosen dietary regime. A Full English is the way to go for me but without the bread, hash browns, baked beans (in that sugary sauce) etc. Alternatively, I have a cheese and mushroom omelette or boiled eggs with a little Boursin dotted about. These are my personal choices that have, for me, neglible effects on my readings.
At first it is trial and error finding what works and what is acceptable for us as individuals. Good luck.

Mmmmmm Before adding these to your menu I suggest you buy a blood glucose meter and then try them. See what happens to your levels. They are all very high in carbohydrate, which will convert to glucose once inside the system. Also, breakfast time is the worst time of day to be eating carbs. Personally I only have coffee with cream or maybe a soft boiled egg (no soldiers). If I did eat breakfast it would be bacon, eggs, 97% meat sausage, tomato, mushrooms, or any egg dish. As we all react differently to foods, it is necessary to try then test, try again with smaller portions, or eliminate completely.

Thanks, forgot to mention that I don’t drink tea or coffee and don’t like cheese, ham, mushrooms! I know, I am such a fussy eater already. xx

Thank you, I will hopefully get testing kit after Christmas and test everything, just a few ideas for now until I get one. x

My breakfast are mostly eggs which I make an omelette with or have them scrambled, poached or boiled or sometimes sardines with chopped spring onion tomato cucumber and mayo but that is about as varied my breakfast gets. I don't do the full English because I don't eat sausages or bacon

I hated cheese and mushrooms. I also don't like ham. So we are alike.

However, several years ago I was eating a meal cooked and served up by my husband. I ate something on my plate and thought ... oooo that was nice. It turned out to be a mushroom that had accidentally landed on my plate! I have eaten them ever since, and have them in quantity more or less every day!!

After being diagnosed T2 and after losing all my excess weight whilst on a low carb eating plan, I had to increase my calories in order to stop losing weight. The only way I could do this without increasing carbs was to increase fats and protein. I took the bull by the horns and for probably the first time in my adult life added cheese to my menu. I was sure I would be sick! I cut it in small cubes and dipped each cube in mayonnaise .... loved it! I have never looked back.

I still don't like boiled ham. ;)

Can’t see that happening, although it would be great. It’s also a texture thing as well as taste I’m afraid. I could fill a page with the foods I dislike/hate so its going to be very interesting moving forward. xx

You don’t have to eat breakfast when you wake up, you can eat it hours later.

Eat any low carb foods at any ‘meal’.

You don’t have to eat ham, mushrooms or cheese. The idea is a very low carb bf works best for most type 2’s. Eggs anyway you like them, any meat rolled up with a sauce or something, left over meats from the night before, etc
I generally have a scrambled egg in butter or a slice of chicken or turkey rolled up in a lettuce wrap with a flavored mayo. No reason you can’t have chicken, turkey, egg, tuna salmon in the morning. ( with mayo)
Cortisol and adrenaline raise our bg naturally in the morning and adding carbs at that time of day exasperates things. Best to save those for later but testing still needs to be done.

I am not a picky eater, I love all food but my menu has dwindled to a few main foods to control my diabetes. I eat all varieties of proteins, healthy fats and only carbs from above ground veggies, avocado and nuts. Never any grains, I use lettuce wraps instead.

It’ll take time to find foods/ meals that work bu then after testing it will become routine.

I have natural yoghurt (full fat) with strawberries and seeds. Sometimes I have raspberries and blueberries but strawberries don't affect my BG so much.

I sometimes bacon and poached eggs at the weekend when I have more time.

I have boil in the bag kippers with Lidl protein roll, or anything fairly carb free. Nothing highly processed - out of choice, and always a few carbs but not as many as later in the day. It can be a bit of trial and error to get back to normal but it is well worth it as (usually) a low carb diet has be bouncing about like a Tigger.

I struggle with breakfast. I never used to eat it. A full English is great but I just could not have that when I first get up - nor every day. I just do not have the time. My problem with breakfast is finding something I can take to work or knock up quickly - apart from all the eggs variations. Since being told I'm prediabetic I've never eaten so many eggs!

I too am not a breakfast person but I had to start having it years ago in order to take a couple of medications that can only be taken on a full stomach. I started with toast but never had such as a full english. Then I was diagnosed with T2. I cannot eat that much when I wake up either so I wait until later. I have that option but you do not so it is a hard problem to solve. Have you tried a mug of creamed coffee first thing, then you could take a brunch-like snack to work with you? Things like cheese and chorizo, nuts, or small pieces of celery with either Boursin or peanut butter spread on them. This got me through my snacking phase until I no longer needed snacks at all. I have two meals per day these days and am thriving on it but it has been a journey of trial and error until I found what works for me, for now. Good luck.
