thanks, so did your medical team give you any advice about eating carbs when you take your injection? as you are on a fixed dose, unlike some on here, your situation is different and you need to talk to your medical team if you want to eat fewer carbs. They can then advise you about your medication.yes i am 12mg in the morning and 14 evening

So many on here can adjust their doses easily and tailor their insulin to their carb intake, so their advice is good if and when you can do that, but just now, its a big risk, especially as you drive, to alter any dietary advice from your medical team.
best wishes, Lucy
Smokeyjoe - When do you next see your Doctor or Nurse? I really would advise you very strongly to talk to them about your change in diet and how you should deal with your insulin.ok thanks
I
I took insulin (half your normal amount) then coffee and cream. 2hrs later tested blood.
If at anytime you feel lightheaded or shaky test your blood immediately and treat if nearing a hypo. With carb but the next day repeat identical breakfast but with less insulin.
One meal at a time.
Stock your cupboards with fish, meat and eggs to vary your diet. Pick those you like the most. Treat yourself, if you can with that bit salmon you've always fancied?
hi ,, due in the next couple of weeks,, i appreciate what your saying and the meaningful advise of others , i was really just looking for hints and tips of getting my bg levels down, as i said they been high for ages , but yes i am defo gonna speak to the diabetic nurse regarding my insulin dosage , they only really stuck me on insulin because i was struggling with my diet control, and to be perfectly honest i just kept cheating all the time , but the scare i had with the heart attack has given me a rather large kick up the jacksy and ive awoken and want to be around for a while yet lol, no laughing matter i know , but as i said ,im awake now and want to do the best i can,,,,, but again thanks so much for the info,,Smokeyjoe - When do you next see your Doctor or Nurse? None of us here are qualified to tell you what to do, and we are certainly not able to recommend you change your insulin doses. That statement includes those well meaning members who happen to be using insulin.
If you are reducing your carb intake, it is likely your blood glucose numbers will reduce, and potentially quite a lot, so it could well be your insulin doses will need to be trimmed back. If you have previously been seeing larger numbers when you test, you may find that when you reduce your carbs your numbers just come into line with where you want them to be, on your current insulin regime.
In your shoes, I would be contacting whomever I talk to about my diabetes and insulin and ask then a few "What if" questions. The sort of thing I mean is "What if my numbers start going low? What would I do with my insulin?" You may also want to consider if you have enough test strips to cover the additional testing you are likely to be doing as you change your way of eating.
I really do wish you very well on your dietary changes, but remember you are doing it to improve your lot, not to set up some scary scenarios which is a risk with fixed insulin and no formal plan of attack.

yea i think so to,, as i said its basically trying teach an old dog new tricks lol but hey ho ill get there ,, eventually lol hopefully not to late though lol,,
im happy to keep it within 5 to 8 now and managing it so far, i do have a spike now and again, but again its down to me eating something i shouldnt ,(naughty lol ) but soon get it back under control ,, its just really the mornings , as i said , i struggle with breakfast , never really been a brekkie person, and force myself to eat something, but lately having a bit of scrambled egg , or a slice of seeded brown toast or the odd crumpet before i go to work , then just have a few small snacks and lunch during the day , till im home ,,@lucylocket61 is correct - changing your way of eating when on insulin requires careful testing. Even more so if you are on fixed insulin. If you cut your carbs too quickly you risk hypos. The advice is very different for people on basal and bolus insulin, with multiple daily injections.
Having said that, if your blood glucose was always high, then it suggests that you were probably eating too many carbs for the amount of insulin. So you may have some room to manoeuvre. But i suggest it should always be with the knowledge and advice of your medical team.
What is your target blood glucose range? And what are your readings now you have dropped some of the carbs?
I don't take insulin and none of us can advise you on adjusting doses, but i would urge you to make diet changes very gradually, test regularly, and make sure your diabetic nurse knows what you are doing.
yes i agree ,ill be seeing the nurse in a couple of weeks,, thanks for the infoHi @smokiejoe03 ,
Bit of an old dog myself.? Yep, we can master new tricks. But get comfortable with the regime you currently have firat before getting the the "tool box" out...?
You are on a fixed dose of Novomix..... Changing your carb intake drastically & even the type of diet with your meds not reviewed by your HCPs can cause adverse affects.
Your little &'often eating seems to have helped to date.
Quick blood sugar control changes for the better can cause other issues. So think of it like a gradual "decromression."
You need to consult your doc as you go!
so i am confused , i always thought that weetabix and shredded wheat etc was ok , but now hearing different things , anyone help out on info please ?
Ketogenic diet is very low carb and may not be suitable for you if you have no idea of how to adjust your insulin doses. On a fixed insulin regimen you risk dangerous hypos. You really need to talk to your diabetes team about this.what is that then , ketogenic??
I was too when started low carb. I nearly stopped insulin but needed basal so got swopped onto separates.@smokiejoe03 is, I think, on fixed doses of insulin? is that right?
