Hi I took my blood befor my breakfast & it was 5.3 2hrs after having a cuppa tea & a bowl of bran flakes I took it again &I it was 12.4 can anyone tell if there is any cereals I can have which won't rise my bl sky high ?

Hi, in short, no. Most people stay away from cereals as they are full of sugar.. Even the 'good ones'

Hi Pitchie,
Yes Bran Flakes have a lot of Carbohydrates, that convert to Glucose when you eat them.
if you want to keep levels down eat less carbs, ie Bacon and Eggs ( No Toast) for breakfast

its all about trial and error to be honest.........

i would expect shredded wheat to have less of an impact than most cereals......

as mentioned though, most folk cant tolerate them.........

Thank you I've got t2 & I've had it for 18moths thought I was doing alright but I'm still not lol
I will have to find something else to have . I love shredded wheat lol

I sometimes have a natural yoghurt with a few berries for breakfast. I love Fage Total (full fat) Greek yoghurt. I fought against trying it for months because I thought I didn't like yoghurt. I now buy it in bulk lol.

There are some low-carb museli recipes somewhere on the forum, perhaps members might see your post and provide one for you.

Welcome Rs fan,

Ditch the cereals as they have way too much carbs and sugar in for any diabetic.
There are plenty of other options for breakfast. Can't beat a fry up!

Have you had a look at the football thread, especially as your lot are trying to stay in the premiership.
You have a player that's a bit of a hero at my club, Clint Hill. Legend!!!

I can eat a small portion of bran flakes which I add almonds, hazelnut and, if available, fresh blueberries to.

The full fat one is best because it has only 3.8g carbs per 100g. I just looked up one of the 0% ones and that has 7g carbs per 100g. It's personal preference really and how many carbs your body can tolerate. I am following a low carb high fat diet because I need to lose a lot of weight so I like the full fat one as it satiates me and I don't feel at all hungry until lunch time.

Thxs Zand I'm not very good with carbs I'm not sure how many u are ment to have (just can't get my head round it lol ) when I go shopping tomorrow I will have a look I also have to find a loaf of bread I can have as I can't give it up lol Thxs again I'm getting some good advice on this site .

When I started I would not touch anything above 10% carbohyrate, 1g in 10g, seemed okay to me.... and it sort of worked for me.
Lidl's do a top full fat yogurt....

The only way to find out how many carbs you can eat, and which (if any) carby foods, in what quantities, is to use you meter to tell you. Nobody else can really say how your body will react, as we're all different with different problems and requirements. All we can do is give general advice and hopefully point you in the right direction.

The best way to go is find foods that you enjoy that are low in carbs, moderate in protein, and highish in fats, and that should help you keep your glucose levels down after meals. My personal advice is not to limit yourself to traditional breakfast style meals, but consider other foods, e.g. hot or cold meat or chicken, cheese, muffins, yoghurt and berries, etc, as well.

I use myfitness pal and a book called Carbs and Cals to help me monitor mine.

I rarely eat bread, but when I do have a craving for it I have just one slice of Burgen bread. Some people here manage to have a slice of Burgen toast each day, but I can't. Like Robbity said, keep testing. :)
