BS readings

its surprising how a couple of potatoes can affect my readings so much

A couple of small new spuds would be better than mashed, jackets, or those cooked a long time in a stew. It's all to do with the starches breaking down in the cooking. For me, diced spuds in a casserole/stew send me very high indeed. I can, however, manage 3 small new spuds or 2 or 3 small ones roasted in fat. It is a question of eating to your meter and learning from the results. You are getting there Ally, and doing really well, so it is a shame to spoil it.

You know me, and my desire to find the positives in lots of things. :)

I might turn things on their head and suggest that it's great that some of the things you have tried have been quite cut and dried. Such as, your potato example that's shouting from the rooftops, "baddie, baddie, baddie !!!". It could be worse, with few clues and lots of "maybe" pointers.

At least you know, loud and clear what has to happen with potatoes for the time being. :(

As I have said before, although it's a real pain, things may improve over time, but we're probably talking some months, rather than days or weeks.

Are you beginning to get a decent variety of meals you can enjoy, whilst keeping your scores at bay? If not, we can maybe have a bit of a brainstorm for you. I've had some great ideas from this site.

i have been getting great ideas from here though i,m struggling to cut out the sweetener from my cup of tea
i can drink black coffee without sugar but coffee makes me thirsty:D

Do you mean proper sugar or an artificial sweetener? If it's an artificial sweetener, is there a particular reason why you want to cut it out?

artifial sweetner, i thought if i could stop that then i could help get rid of my sweet tooth

BRILLIANT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Big clap from me :)

Did you do anything different between breakfast and lunch to give you that wonderful 5.6?

that's really good. Keep at it. I think you'll soon know what and how much of stuff you can eat. I'm learning that some things can be eaten in moderation that I had given up , like homemade potato wedges/fries in skin and that others like half a pitta bread aren't worth the spike. It's all about seeing the scores on your own doors and deciding how high you are happy to be at after 2hrs- I find that doing 20 mins exercise after a meal with a few carbs in really helps keep mine under 6.5 at 2hrs.

Proud of you Ally...such a difference to a while back now. I hope your HCP's will value your efforts and listen to how you have achieved such improved bloods.

I wonder if you are eating too little fat? It is fats eaten with a meal that stop you being hungry. Next time you have a salad try having a good dessertspoon of real mayonnaise (Hellman's has no carbs in it. Some other brands do), or drizzle some olive oil on it, or add some cheese, and maybe some nuts as snacks.

I am happy for you, and there is absolutely no reason why you can't get your levels as low as that again, every day.

i just wish my first reading in the morning was lower then the 11 or 12 it is at the moment

Just a suggestion but how about you stop taking fasting counts in the morning for the next couple of weeks or so; they are notoriously hard to control because of factors outside our control and they seem to cause you distress.

Stick to a breakfast that you know will not spike you and only measure after breakfast and before and after any other meals.

Get these counts to behave and I suspect that after two weeks when you test morning levels again, you will be pleasantly surprised.
