Calories or carbs?

@photognut and @Daibell

I had a low carb binge a few days ago when I ate 350 g cheese in one go (0.35g carbs according to the package) and a good amount of brazil nuts (maybe 5g carbs), in addition to a small 'normal' dinner. Oh, and it was delicious! I have been feeling good that night as well as the next day. I am neither more nor less hungry than before, crave cheese as usual etc. Do you ever eat that much, or feel the need, or ability, to eat such amounts? Would you gain or loose weight?

I am not sure about 'what happened', but maybe my body needed the food then.

I had a really strange episode yesterday... the day before I lost 3lb from various trips to the loo. Yesterday, I had my usual omelette and I could not stop eating, felt cold all day, my weight stayed the same all day too, really weird.... I worked it out that I had stuffed nearly 3000 calories & 80g carbs!!! :***: this morning I had not put on any weight from the insane binge, my fasting glucose this morning normal - today, I'm back to eating my current norm of 1000 calories iro 40g carbs without issues.....

I take Metformin SR and it's much better for the stomach. I second going to the doctor and asking to change. I think they try plain Metformin first, knowing that many many people have issues with it, to save money. I threw a tantrum at GP on phone, saying that after 4 weeks on the stuff, that I still couldn't leave the house and that I wanted the SR.

Even the SR can cause issues, I had to work up to the full dose. Its a pain whenever the SRs are in short supply. Last time GP was calling pharmacies to find some, himself. The threat of rear end episodes I miss a tablet has kept me on the straight and narrow and I was panicking. GP managed to find some day before I ran out.

So insist on the SR because GPS and other HCPs absolutely are aware of side effects.

Yes really!

Think you missed the point and took my words totally out of context. When someone asks you a question I'm sure they know they can search and find the answer for themselves. I didn't mention anywhere in my post that I thought posting links to useful information wasnt a good idea. Good gracious really? That's exactly the type of comment that scares people off the forum. Answer the question asked and provide a link by all means rather than simply saying search the forum it's on another thread if you look!

Hi

In fairness though, wouldn't a link provided to an existing thread covering the same topic be much the same as reading it twice if the poster of that information typed it out too?
If the poster of that information is not the original author on the thread link? They may also not be as articulate with the info. Thus out of respect to the actual author posting the thread link...

Also the link poster though eager to help may just find it more convenient to post the link than struggle typing with a device such as a smart phone? (The link poster may have a dexterity issue with hands?) ;)

I believe that I had unintentionally upset @KimG!
And I have apologised.
The referral to read other threads is something I do to let the poster gain the necessary knowledge to tackle their individual problems.
I believe that the best way to learn how to get control of a blood glucose problem is to self educate and realise that a big change is required to do that!
It has nothing to do with relaying information.
Which I would gladly give with following questions.

I am not the most tech minded and have never conquered the link thingimybob or I would!
I type with one finger and my word guesser is often wrong!
I have to reread my posts to make sense, excuse this old man please!

If I could post some of the answers that I think of sometimes, I would get banned!;)

Nosher,

I've always found your posts informative & get your humour. To be frank, I have never heard of reactive hypoglycaemicia before coming across your posts. Though have heard Similar acounts from people in the past, but not as articulate as your good self due to them not fully understanding the condition..

I too have always found your posts helpful and very informative. You apologised for the unintentional upset, and that should be the end of it, IMO.
