Hi @Nodemus .

Very easy for me to say 'just do this or that' and mean well, but if we can't actually manage to do 'that' then it's not so useful.

I don't have to inject, so can't say too much on that side of things, hopefully others more knowledgeable can offer advice on that

If your still new to this, carb craving can be VERY strong, so don't be too defeated, it's a difficult foe.
and as I see it, ANYTHING you actually manage to do in controlling your carb intake IS a positive.

So maybe celebrate the successes more then the slips ups.?

We all have those, in varying magnitudes.
Few of us are saints

As an idea, If you fall back ..maybe find a less 'harmful' treat you perhaps can turn to rather then a carby one .?

I know when I started, having treats in the house was hard (wife & daughter )

What worked & helped me was having alternatives if I cracked & felt like a carby treat

I had a little stock of pepparami, deli meats, pork scratchings & biltong..( comes in crisp like packets, dulled any mid meal hunger really well, and low carb).

Like I say not easy, but it does give you possibility of alternatives for those harder moments .

Something I realised slowly, AND bear in mind this isn't a diet, it's an adjustment to a lifestyle, so a marathon not a sprint.

Was managing my eating times to my hunger

I decided early on to try cutting down my meals, to two a day...breakfast. Or brunch & one evening meal.

For me any step in the right direction I felt would benefit me..and one less meal was fewer carbs somewhere.

However it was hard at first, because not being a desert guy, it was just (adjusted obviously) a normal meal...but it left a hunger in-between meals.

Something I'd usually fill up on with rubbish snacks etc.

Others talked of eating until your full.

Mmhh...I didn't want a bigger meal, but the idea of a second course made me think that might work for me

So I started having desert after my evening meal...usually double cream & low carb jelly
Or DC & Strawberries or blueberries.
Sometimes a Greek yoghurt with berries.

All very ok under LCHF, but each helped edge out that sneaky hunger that risked undoing al my good work... A hunger that I wonder maybe leading you back to your carb fest ?

Anyway, that worked for me, after my evening meal I was stuffed by Good things and less rubbish.

Over time that helped me adjust to losing that carb / sweet desire, my appetite settled ( I no longer do desert )

Not the full answer & maybe to much waffle.

But I do believe, even when it looks like we're failing, IF we are doing at least something's right ...and you sound like you are.

We ARE improving our lives & health

An admirable thing to.be doing, and maybe knowing that will give you confidence to resist at those weaker moments ?
Seek alternative choices, and maybe give yourself the time to adapt to a better way of eating.

As said, I don't have the full answer, just a few ideas that may help.

Sure others will be along with their ideas/advice.
And hopefully you can take one or two of those and find the way to make your journey through type 2 as easy as possible .

Good luck

Hi, sorry to read you are struggling, I have recently been seeing a psychologist because of hopelessness due to not being able to get my diabetes under control, this has been life changing for me, could you ask your doctor if there is anything in your area available? My person is diabetic specific.

Amongst so much more, she talks about a point of choice, when you are not choosing wether or not to do X but which path X takes you down, is it the path you want to take. It has made me realize that it is actually a choice I make when my blood sugars are high, so not focusing on the journey but instead try to focus on where this road takes me.

Has made me realize that I am not on an out of control bus, rolling towards a sharp bend on a mountain road, nothing I can do to stop myself going over the edge, but I am in fact in control, I have all the controls in my hands and can in fact choose to steer my bus around the bend and back up the next hill. My road is not easy to navigate, lots of humps and bumps, twists and turns, so I am taking the journey on one choice at a time, keeping in mind my destination.

Now I didn’t finish school, let alone study psychology so I can’t do what she does, I am just trying to explain through my dodgy analogies, we are the drivers, not the passengers on our journey, choose where your next choice takes you, is that where you want to go? No? Then what other choices do you have?

I am sorry if none of this makes sense, best of luck!

Edit: I found these I was once sent from psychologist, they seem a bit daft but have a profound meaning (for me they did anyway) I hope I’m allowed to post the links, if not and they get deleted, this edit won’t make much sense lol

Huge man hug @Fenn

Sometimes the part of the damage caused isn't where we'd expect to find it, it seems

Going through something similar.
Can only applaud you for taking such positive steps.

Your post makes some great points.
Good to see you seem to have a keen insight to where your heading AND how to get there.

Not watched videos as yet
But will definitely make time to look at them.
sure to be illuminating.

EDIT : Watched videos.

Liking them.
Nice easy approach .
Useful..

Wishing you all the very best

Glad it's of some use.

None if this is really easy.
We're changing a lifetimes habits
So bravo for the successes so far

Simply making the attempt is praise worthy,
And I think in each of us that tries, runs a little steely determination, we probably never knew we had.

Best of luck

All diabetes clinics should have specialist psychologist support. Well done on going down that road. Sometimes it just takes a small (or bigger) deflection to change the path of life for the positive.

Stick with it.
