Can anyone relate to this??

Hi all.

I'm a (relatively) newly diagnosed T1 (was diagnosed in Feb just gone). Immediately after my diagnosis, up until about April, I was fine with it. Like, even eager to keep on top of my BG and return to "normal" life (I ended up signed off work by my GP for two months) but recently I've found that I'm kinda in denial for want of a better word. I'll get really down and go days without testing, only eat salad and things so as to avoid taking my injections and basically (against my own better judgment) ignore the fact that I am diabetic. But then I go to the other extreme of driving myself insane researching all the ways diabetes can affect things like pregnancy and menopause and start worrying and stressing over potential complications. I don't know I'm just really getting myself down about it and I don't know any diabetics really, so I don't have a sounding board for my concerns. I'm newly married and my husband is great but can't really understand why I get so het up. Can anyone relate or does anyone have any advice how to get back to a better place with this condition?

Any help appreciated xx

Many people who come to these forums have been in your current situation at some point. So it's quite normal to feel the way you do.

I know it's easy to say, but just take things one day at a time. Don't worry about the future and any potential complications because there are no guarantees in life (or with diabetes).

But do please think about trying to keep your blood sugars under control. If succesful it will improve your chances of living a long and reasonably healthy life. And we have forum members who have been diabetic for many, many years without developing further complications.

Good luck @Robynoksana .

Thank you @urbanracer

I just get myself to a place where it's easier to ignore it and then it's harder to pull myself out from it you know? My husband has given me some tips he's looked up for keeping my morning BG down as that is really hard for me regardless of my basal but it's just diabetes as a whole :/

@Robynoksana I think it takes months to really get used to the idea of Type 1. It's a gradual process and you can go through stages, including denial, just as you've described.

What helps is getting into a routine - doing things like testing automatically. Then they become second nature and you can think about other things.

The main thing that helps me is a determination not to let the @*+#¥\}* diabetes win. If you don't test or inject, it wins. Control it and don't let it control you.

It does get easier gradually :)
