Can someone help?

My heart is going out to you. I have been where you are now. I'm not going to say I know how you feel because everyone's pain is unique to them. It is not unusual to feel depressed after diagnosis. It is a lot to deal with and can feel overwhelming. It can be difficult sometimes to talk about how you feel but would it be possible to see a counsellor? I know you must feel very lonely and isolated and I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. This forum is a great source of support and comfort for a lot of people. Please try not to despair and please hang in there. When I'm low I remind myself that things always get better, and they do. Please believe that.

Steve, please contact your GP or the Samaritans, you obviously need more support than just a prescription for antidepressants.

I know totally how you are feeling.

Please see your gp and ask to see someone specialising in mental health problems. There is no stigma nowadays to being referred for mental health problems.
They really try their best to support you in your community,,, i was afraid of being unsucessful and being sectioned.... My hospital has a team, a phone number to phone at anytime if I ever feel how I was feeling again.. And that was the same as you.. Couldnt see any point in being here.....but through the Asti team at my hospital I was seen straight away... I didnt even go through my GP... You can self refer...I didnt get sectioned, they understood me and my fears and my life circumstances.
Please phone your hospital and ask if they have a mental health Ast team, ask if you can go in and speak to someone there. You dont need gp referral.

They have helped me twice in 20 years, when my family and friends couldn't...

You can get through this and feel better. You'll get good support here..

Hi. Steve. Other posts have provided some useful information for you. Diabetes UK (www.diabetes.org.uk) do have a help line if you want more advice relating to insulin or other diabetes management questions. I provide IT volunteer support to our local branch of Mind, the Mental Health charity, and I know the help they actively provide to those with a range of mental health problems including depression which is so common. Hopefully there is a branch near you; go to the National Mind website for local branch info. Take care.

Good Steve. Glad you will be getting some help. You will get enormous help here. Diabetes can add to depression...
You will be okay...there is always help and support here.. People that know how you are feeling.. Even though its not directly a diabetic problem....
You'll get support here to get through this **** time

Hello and welcome, please go and see your GP straight away. I have a friend who has,' black dog' she goes through terrible terrible times, that is all I amsaying. Don't suffer, there is help there for you, MIND is very good and also the Samaritains, just talking to someone at the end of the phone, I know it has been of help to my friend. It seems alot of people get some sort of mental illness in their lives, it can still be seen as a stigma andI know it can be soul destroying. Please take care of yourself and don't forget, there are specialist forums on the internet that deal with mental health problems, you are not on your own.

Steve, hope you're ok. I've suffered depression, but everyone is different and I don't think anyone can know how you feel. Keep talking to your gp, family, friends, shop assistants, us, anyone! Hang in there, sending you a bear hug

Hi Stevie,
Shortly after diagnosis (i could say straight from hospital ) i went counselling and im telling you it works wonders. Ive never been depressed about diabetes and it has helped in many other areas of my life. Im still there if i feel a bit low or need support. There is no reason to be ashamed. Most of people need emotional support but only few have a courage to ask for it.
