I had a total blood screen so I think it should have shown up, I think maybe it was such a kneejerk reaction that everything just went potty and I got the red flag readings. At least the doctor was onto it straightaway!!
I do think its really interesting though that there are so many of us who have damaged pancreases, who have then become diabetic - just wonder if there will be more research done into it..........does it mean that we are actually Type 3 then? I'm treated with the regime for Type 2 and it seems to be working currently.......I guess over time its just a waiting game! Its just so good to have this forum so we can all chat together over things like this that are confusing and sometimes worrying. Bit like having a chat in the pub but without the drink.............or maybe teashop but without the cake!!!!!!!!!

I'm very glad you posted and shared this , I have had a pre-Diabetes diagnosis , and can't get the readings down unless I starve my self but then I feel rotten , I like you had my gallbladder out (in 2008) and I now and recent years get a sharp needle like pain in my upper right abdomen which I was given ranitidine and mebeverine for (wrong diagnosis? pancreas?) , it comes and goes , plus I had hip pain since 2 months after the GB op (unrelated?) . I have had scans and blood tests (ongoing and regular) since but only Pre-diabetes comes up. And as I am overweight Fattty liver was mentioned at one of my scans , cause of the pain ? or maybe left over stones ? I want to get the heads up on anything so I don't have to spend years on more pills or operations . Thanks for your posting it gives me a new perspective on things ~ Pre-diet

My story is similar re GB op, pains, and feeling dreadful when starving. Have only had success with a low-carb diet. (Pills made me feel waaaay more sick. Am very glad to now be off all meds.) I suggest eating protein at each meal, plenty of veges and fat (- yes, really, going off meds & losing weight will both help the fatty liver to recover) ... and avoiding bread/rice/potatoes as if your life depended on it... Oh, wait... It might....
Good luck. Getting off pills (& the look of shock on your Dr's face when your bl sugar readings are OK - without his poison) is worth it. :)

I had my gall bladder removed many years ago and in 2010 started to get the same symptoms as before and ended up in hospital with acute pancreatitis. The medics blamed alcohol and although I don’t drink that much they were adamant that was the cause. Since 2010 I’ve been fine no return of any symptoms and can eat and drink anything (touch wood). I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes in about 2013 and managed it by diet at first then meds. I ended up on the max meds of everything prescribed and it’s only since starting a low card diet that I really control my BG. I questioned the T2 diagnosis and eventually saw a consultant who conceded I am probably T3c and therefore Gliclicide will not work on me however after testing me over 1 month if appeared it had a bit of effect so I was advised to carry on using it. My BG readings have never really been high and I am right on my ideal BMI. Gastric problems seem to run in the family, my father, sister, niece all suffered and had gall bladder ops. Don’t let them fob you off make sure they do all appropriate tests.

I was diagnosed type 2 in 2016. I just take 1 Metformin per day and control by diet. When I went for colonoscopy 2 years ago for bowel problems with IBS, they found cysts on my pancreas . So it's a watch n wait game now.

I have not had my gall bladder removed, but it was discovered that I had a cyst on my pancreas which is benign but it makes you wonder if diabetes can be caused by other things.
Yes. Same here. Not had gallbladder out. Lot of gastric problems. Had Ecoli few years ago. IBS for years. Now cysts on pancreas

I like to throw the word "haemochromatosis" into the conversation now and again, just in case. If you are looking for answers to unexplained symptoms it's another avenue to explore. There will be people on this forum who don't know they have it. Google it.

sorry this is so belated but I've only just seen it. My type 2 diabetes was caused by damage to my pancreas resulting from keyhole gall bladder removal surgery that was more serious than had been anticipated.

I've had my gallbladder removed, the removal was not easy. It took 6 hours instead of the 1.5 hours. It was inflamed, twisted flipped. They had to call in a specialist when I was on the table. I never had any follow up except a discharge two weeks later and all he asked was am I feeling ok? Have I had any flare ups?

I was diagnosed diabetic a few years later. My bloods are really high but I have no symptoms of being high. When I take my meds, I have low blood sugar symptoms but my bloods are still high. I paid for a test a couple weeks ago that said my trypsin and chemotrypsin levels were lower than they should be. I've seen type 3c and now I wonder if I have that instead of type 2.
How do you get tested for EPI? Can I push for it?

T2 and PAF & now Haemochromatosis!
8 years ago I had acute pancreatitis due to a blocked bile duct from gallstones. I was in hospital for a week. I returned the following week for key hole surgery to have my gall bladder removed. Since then I have had bouts of feeling ill, sometimes like I am going to pass out, clammy, sweaty and weak. Last year I was told my HbA1c level was 46 and that this year she (my doctor) would be diagnosing me with type 2 diabetes. A few months later I was tested again and no more was mentioned. The last few weeks, I have been dragging myself around, despite having my b12 injection I just wanted to crawl in bed. I went to the Doctors because I really thought I may have an underactive throid gland. A week ago friday I went back to the doctors, who gave me blood tests and was rang on Monday morning to say the test needed repeating in 2 weeks because my HbA1c level is now 48. Surely this is not high enough to be making me feel this ill, when I look at how high some people's are on here? I just saw your post and now it has got me asking just how long it has been this high and could my pancreatitis have started it all off...... Maybe I will never know..
I was taken to hospital by ambulance June 2021, my HBa1C was 138! No symptoms of diabetes ‍♀️ I would say your HBa1C is good!

I had my gall bladder removed about 20 years ago after the usual symptoms suffered for years. I had. no issues or further problems for about 8 years, but then started to suffer from the same abdominal pain after eating almost anything except fruit. This went on for a couple of years and my GP diagnosed an ulcer, it came to a head after the worst attack in January 2010 when i ended up in hospital with acute pancreatitis. It was assumed this was caused by excessive alcohol consumption but I explained that this was not actually the case but this was taken with a degree of scepticism.
I was told by a junior doctor I had a blocked bile duct, blocked by a cyst. After 2-3 weeks of nil by mouth I recovered. I’ve not had the symptoms again, so far! I was advised I had significant pancreatic damage (60%) and this would mean I am a risk of diabetes. All went well for a number of years until a blood test indicated pre diabetes levels, these deteriorated over time and are currently HBa1c >60. I have explained to my GP team that the meds prescribed have no effect and my only control is by cutting carbs or fasting. I am quite thin so fasting is not such a great idea! Recently I started suffering from headaches and migraines so I doubled down on no carbs and fasting to get my levels down. This seemed to work initially but i ended up with high ketones. This resolved after adding some carbs to my meals but I’m now back with relatively high glucose levels (>9 virtually all the time) no one seems to understand what type 3c is and that the treatment and meds used for T2 don’t work. I’m a bit lost at the moment as I am banging my head against a brick wall trying to get treatment that works.

How did you get on?

I was advised that the Gliclazide probably doesn’t make much difference but to take it anyway. Still non the wiser. This reply is quite a bit on from the original, I am due to have a check up next month, I am taking some research on T3cDM as the nurse seems not to be aware of T3 or the treatment implications. I read that 1 in 10 with T3 are prone to pancreatic cancer.
