Hi I'm type 2 , 7 years since diagnosis. Controlled with diet (low carb) for 6 years, taking 2 X 500mg Metformin for last year. So every few months I wear the Abbott freestyle libre to check all going well. We moved to Italy a year ago and I haven't worn the libre since January.
Have the horrible realisation I don't think I can drink cappuccinos any more. I looked up the carbs - 9 gms in the UK (excluding Starbucks etc) and at least 6gms in Italy. I was shocked. And though it doesn't happen often, I have had 2 a day sometimes. So 12gms just on coffees is easily enough to knock me out of ketosis. I had put on a bit of weight and I didn't know why. Oh well. Think the keto bread I bought might be a bit suspect too. Am logging carbs again and monitoring. May switch to macchiato. Our local cafe does soy milk but I don't want to get caught scrutinising their soya milk cartons for carb counts

I usually have Americano with cream. Lucky for me the coffee shop opposite does an 1 shot coffee with zapped unsweetened almond milk which I provide. That is all fine on sugars. I just can't drink coffee with Milk....

If I drink coffee when out, I have it black. That way I know carbs can't sneak in as they do with various artisanal versions. At home, either black or with cream. You might find you enjoy black coffee more than you think, and Italian coffee is lovely!

I'm normally espresso/machiatto when out. At home it's mocha pot coffee with cream usually.

While I was wearing a libre I had a small latte (unusually, but I was cold). If I remember correctly the rise started within a minute or two (I was about 5 or so beforehand) peaked over nine and vanished within the hour. There would have been no trace at two hours.

While it's good that my system dealt with it, it was a bit of an eye-opener at just how quickly the carb was in the bloodstream - I wonder if it is something about it being carried in a warm liquid?

I only drink black coffee just don’t like it any other way, but I know that you can ask for cream In Starbucks. Agree with @KennyA on the quick rise, when I was Gliclizide and out and about if I was starting with a hypo I used to get a Costa cortardo and it would raise my numbers enough to stop hypo and keep me within range without me having to start eating carbs etc
