Carb free snacks

Quorn ham is a new discovery for me. Using slices instead of bread with a salad or houmous filling.

I dont want to preach to the converted but can I point out that these high protein/high fat snacks cannot be eaten freely as they can still be high in calories or saturated fats which can increase body fat which will worsten diabetes...

They are high in fat (the good fats) and protein as well as other nutrients, which means they keep us fuller for longer so we automatically eat less of these snacks.

The noodles are by a company called Bare Naked Foods. The radio 4 presenters were talking about pasta and bread also having come onto the market this summer but they didn't mention the makes.

Bozwald59, I think it may be you that needs converting.
Since switching to low carb and eating lots of saturated fat and protein instead my 'numbers' have improved vastly. Total Cholesterol down 2% and an improvement in the good/bad ratio too. Hba1c down , blood pressure really improved, weight down by 10% of body weight.
Others report similar benefits from high fat/protein and low cholesterol. My athletic performances have improved too. I'm not as tired and i'm not as hungry either. Low carb, High fat/protein has been a transformation and shown to be so by my blood tests.

You may have had a good experience of low carb high fat/high protein diet but that is hardly a clinical trial. I'm a pharmacist with over 30 years helping people with their health and I'm also a type 2 diabetic. I encourage patients to have a well balanced diet including low G.I carbs to keep their blood sugar in check. Increased waist size is a strong risk factor in the development of type 2 diabetes and I'm advocating moderation in snacking as many patients will gain weight. What works well for a fit and mobile patient like yourself may not work for more advanced diabetics. Perhaps you should have read my post properly before pooh-poohing it. There is rarely one solution that fits everybody. I advise caution with these and any snacks as they could well increase the calorie load for many patients .

Now that is a more measured post Bozwald59, unlike your original dogmatic sweeping statement.

For some people high fat carb free snacks CAN be eaten freely. Your original statement was wrong to say that they cannot, that was merely your opinion. You are a pharmacist not a dietician so you should be careful when you imply that the one gives you some authority to speak about the other. I am neither but I can speak about my own experience and refer anecdotally to other's experiences which are well documented on this forum - including references to scientific studies which back this up.

Yes, zucchini, or rather marrow. Remove the skin, cut the marrow into chip size bits, dip in things like crushed chilis, or pepper, or mexican powder etc and then deep fry them. You can leave them to cool. Another is proper Chinese prawn crackers, although, they do have some carb content.

Bare naked foods do low calorie, low carb and gluten free noodles. They can be ordered on their website. I've not tried them as yet but I certainly intend to get hold of some!

I was interested to read this, I have just ordered a couple of packs from H&B just to try them out. They are a little on the expensive side, but honestly most of the low carb foods seam to be more pricey.

All I need now is some low carb pasta/bolognese sauce and I am set.

I can try, although the result might look like a special effects studio from an old horror movie :P
