personally I went cold turkey and cut all grain, grain product, potato and sugary stuff inc fruit/juice till I got my bloods under control
I'm not controlled, that's why I went cold turkey, I still fall of the wagon for a day here and there.wow.. your very controlled!! im not a fan of rye crispbreads, so im not i will like rye bread! but i am willing to try most things nowadays!
oh really? but to go cold turkey you be controlled personally.. as in very strong.. not in a diabetes controlled way lol does that make sense?! hmm not alyways easy putting things into words haha!!I'm not controlled, that's why I went cold turkey, I still fall of the wagon for a day here and there.
you have 2 days where you're hungry and a few day no energy, then you are fine. all over in a week.

I couldn't do reduce carbs slowly, it drove me nuts..looking back on it, if I added more fats to start with, it may have been easier
with carb, I'm back at the fridge with the door open ..looking for something to eat within 2 hrs
my BMI is 30.7, which has reduced from 35.7 when i was was diagnosed diabetic. (i also have family members with T2, grandad and now my mum)
my waist is now 38 inches , no idea what it was at diagnosis though! i now do zumba once a week, and i am on my feet all day at work.
Hi Kazlincs,
1. Reducing BMI from 35.7 to 30.5 is a nice achievement. However you need to bring this to around 25; and this you should plan carefully. IMHO, you are already T2D, so no need to hurry or do something too drastic. Consult a good GP or a nutritionist or a senior who can set up a good diet regime for weight loss. This forum is very good for diet control, as it is very specific to T2D and weight loss. You need to set a daily exercise regime too, however light/ easy it may be; apart from walking your dogs. I was told in a health camp that 'walking with your dog or with group of friends is very good for heart; but needs to jog (sweat out!) on 2 days in a week at least'. If you have a treadmill you can jog now and then. Zumba is very good, but make sure you sweat.
2. To give you an idea: One of my brothers (T2D since few years) he reduced his BMI from 31 to 26. He started working on his BMI only after getting T2D. He did not change his diet [kinda addicted], but reduced all portions to like 75% avoided potatoes and booze. But he was on treadmill everyday! It took about 10 months for him to get to 26. Hope he sticks to the good habits. - BUT not all bodies react in the same way; you know it as I read from your posts.
3. Then you need to work on your waist. 38 is on higher side. zumba should give results on waist. I did body weight exercises; like pushups, planks, burpees, squats etc.
If you get your BMI and waist to healthy ranges, I think you can reverse T2D as you are young. You need to be consistent. You must celebrate next birthday with 'pure high spirits'. For now, I wish you a very happy returns of the day! Best of luck!.
HAHA! love it!!!! that made me giggle!!!
i do doggy walking every day, and i just started a zumba class once a week
i was pretty good today, just had water biscuits, thin crackers, with butter and a teeny tiny bit of jam.. and i had almost carb free dinner!checking the sugar in about 10 ins again.. it did go down twice so far.. im hoping its gone down more again!
by the way.. love love love the less weight part!!! fingers crossed for me!!!

Tesco stock rye bread. Lidl also stocks it at a much cheaper price. Lidl rye bread is sliced much thinner than others, which is a good thing carb wise.
snack on anything but a carb, I ate coconut oil off of a spoon to get me through the first week.i have to say its horrible when you feel reeeaallly hungry and your BS is high!!! but coleslaw, babybel, carrot sticks and celery with salad cream really help fill me up and dont push the sugar up!
ive only just found that out by the way!! haha!!
im defo better with a bit of carbs, but im hoping it will help me lose weight, as i know it will help motivate me to sort everything else out!!
i have a wedding to go to in october.. my friend wants me to wear a dress.. im not a dress person.. more of a tomboy! lol BUT as i have lost some weight, my workmates made me try about 5 dresses on at work.. and i actually liked one!!! i havent even tried a dress on for approx 18-19 YEARS!!! so, if i lose more weight, i will be surprising my friend when i wear a dress to her wedding! she may well pass out! hahah!!
ooohh nooooo!! i dont like either of them!! lol the only one in our house who likes peanut butter is the dog!! haha!! i did get some coconut oil a few months ago, and it was yucky!! i do like coconut.. but not the oil!! i know im fussy!! haha!!peanut butter/paste ..better than carbs
get the coconut oil from an asian grocery, much cheaper
oh now im intrigued to see what your HBa1c results will be! were you having high results before? If you are based in Lincolnshire, your town may well have a Polish or continental grocers. They sell nice rye bread. They also sell interesting tinned fish.
I have also been faced with a T2 diagnosis fairly recently. I have found it best to focus on the things I can eat, rather than the things I can't eat. Eating out is a testing exception to
I have to have packed lunches a couple of times a week -John West tins of "light lunch" fish salad make a handy grab and go option, Prince's do nice handy packs of tuna with stuff that can be eaten with a bit of salad.
Chinese takeaway food is a bit of a minefield. Many dishes include sugar (avoid anything labelled sweet & sour). I substituted bean sprouts for rice last time we had a takeaway which worked pretty well, and reluctantly avoided mopping up the sauce with anything.
I have been pleasantly surprised with the way weight has fallen off since I went much lower carb.
I will soon be booking my 3 monthly check up with diabetic nurse and will be able to see the impact on HbA1C.
Best wishes
Adam
ive bought a bar from tesco.. if its ok, i will buy a pack from amazon at a cheaper price!I think the most obvious thing that comes out in these threads is how different we all are, and how what works for one doesn't for another.
I can't help you with the bars, but on the surface the bars look alright, the best suggestion is as ever, try one and test.
