Hi to you all and a Happy New Year.

I posted about a year ago about the negative response I got from family and friends who made comments such as 'You've lost too much weight', 'Don't get any thinner', 'You don't look normal' and I have to say they got to me a bit. Nothing that stopped me following the path I was on but they did get under my skin a bit. As it happens I have now lost over three stone and controlled my diabetes without medicines and also been able to stop blood pressure medication . Much thanks goes to the low carb diet, stopping drinking and some very kind words from members on here. I am now bang in the middle of my ideal height/weight range, BMI normal and body fat percentage in normal/athletic range. Oh yes and forgot to say I am half way through qualifying as a personal trainer so as to begin to help others.
Maybe worth saying the shift that made the difference to me. As I said I did let some of the negatives get to me particularly when my wife said I had become 'obsessed' Somebody on here gave me the answer - Yes I am obsessed.....with keeping my feet, eyes etc. Back to my tale. I got just a bit fed up with negative people and blew up. The first being at my mother in law. You're too thin' she said......'Bit rich coming from somebody who's five or six stone overweight' said I. She hasn't mentioned it since. The best though was a guy in the village who just pointed at me and said 'you're skinny'.........'you're fat but I don't keep banging on about it'. I now get quite a peaceful life.
I am convinced at this distance that many people see somebody who as decided to do something positive as a threat and try and put them down in the hope that in doing so they will reverse the action only to make themselves feel better about their bloated condition.
The moral is 'don't carry the burden of other people's negativity'. You owe it to yourself to take action and control this condition before it controls you.

Sounds like you have done a bloody brilliant job.
I agree with all your sentiments here and although I have had a bit more support from family and friends there are still people who just don't get it (mostly my HCP's!).
Well done on not letting the b***ards get you down.

@Paul_Williams2409 - Your story is immensely inspiring. What a fabulous turnaround.

I'm having similar success with LCHF and exercise by losing nearly three stone, dodging the meds and bringing my blood pressure back to normal range.

So far no one's been negative about my weight loss but I've had negativity re my diet, with people labelling it "unhealthy" or "faddy", but I ignore them. I've also been labelled "obsessive" re my diabetes and diabetes in general, but I believe that if you're the one with it you can never be too obsessed. Our obsession has got us this far!

The very best of luck with your quest to become a personal trainer. You will be brilliant, I'm sure!

@Paul_Williams2409 I really enjoyed reading your post. I'm glad you didn't let the negativity derail you. There are people in this world who try boost their own ego by putting other people down. Good luck with your quest to be a personal trainer! :)

Thank you. Best of luck also in beating this horrible condition

Thank you. From the gloom has come much positive energy. Not bad for age 62 I guess.

You have done a magnificent job. Keep up the great work and thank you

After a weight loss, so far, of 4 stone I have had comments about looking scrawny and 'don't lose any more' normally from over-weight people. S*d off, I'm doing this for my health not yours. They wouldn't say 'you look scrawny; to a person who is normally like that.

From one perfectly proportioned person to another, well; done.

I have a theory on this Carol. I now class myself as normal. It is just that we are so used to seeing people who are over weight many now accept that as the norm. This is the ticking time bomb regarding healthcare cost that we hear so much about. I have little clue how you get to wake people up. It took a major health scare to kick my a**e. And forgot to say 'well done you' for major life changes. Keep up the good work. Delete scrawny use NORMAL.

What is normal?
I don't know about normal!!
I live to be weird, because I wouldn't be able to cope otherwise!
It's weird being normal!
It's normal to be weird!
It's weird to be weird!
I'm confused now! Weirdly!

Or is that normal?
