Looks like benedict is getting a bit of a rough ride in this forum. Let's give him a chance, eh?

I know his job is a hard one.

However - I truly believe that his job will be a lot easier now that Ken and Sue aren't moderating this forum. No-one can deny the contribution that Ken and Sue have made to this forum - this thread is testimony to that, but they did have their (very) own moderating style, and I've made it known that I strongly disagreed with that style.

Everyone is acting like Ken and Sue have been kicked out. They're still here, and I'm sure they'll continue to contribute like they always have. But they won't have any say in how the forum is moderated.

Times change. Let's see what happens, shall we?

I'm slightly confused Patch. Can you please point out the difference between Benedict editing a post and putting ' comment removed ' and either myself or Ken putting ' comment removed '. Also Benedict locking a post with an explanation and one of us locking a post with an explanation

Please explain the difference to me.

No difference. I've contacted benedict about it. (There's a thread).

He's new to this. I'm hoping he listens to comments from members re: moderation, and doesn't respond with comments like "we (the moderators) don't need to justify ourselves to you"...

I'm sure (I hope?) benedict is interested in what is good for the development of this forum, and not maintaining his image on those forums.

It's not a popularity contest. I don't care who's moderating, as long as it's done in the best interest of the forum. I believe that the forum needs to be allowed to continue to develop, and that just wasn't happening when you and Ken were deciding how the forum would take shape.

We have always moderated the Forum in the best interests of the members using the existing rules. However those rules were made at a turbulent time in the Forum's history, they need reviewing, I have asked several times for this to be done. Until that is done that is all the mods have to work with.

But there's nothing in the rules that says you can't employ a bit of common sense. Moderation is not an exact science.

My account was suspended, and I was threated with being banned. Common sense would tell you that the rules re: banning are not there for threatening contributing members, but are there to ensure trolls and trouble makers are banned if need be. We know it's necessary, and that it does happen.

Let's leave the past in the past, and work towards a forum where discussion (even speculative, wild discussion) can flourish.

Peace, Love and water under the bridge.

Hi Patch
If we hadn't used common sense and our discretion you would have been banned long ago. You know tat you would have tested the patience of a Saint.

The rules state " Those that break these rules will be warned once and then be banned from participation.". Those were made by the then administrator. The rules we operated under.

We tried everything to accomodate you but you insisted on pushing the boundary even after we suspended you for seven days. Other current members have had the same treatment and came back with a different attitude and even apologised for their bad behaviour. They didn't take it personally and didn't continue in the same vein for months and months. Most of the members here know your views on moderation and clearly it is not the same as yours.

Your view is accepted but as with many things it is the view of the majority that takes precedence. We and I in particular didn't moderate the forum to win a popularity contest but to allow members to feel safe and unthreatened ffom bullies and those who thought anything goes. That was using common sense and also, particularly in your case, large doses of discretion.

That's what moderation is all about. A thankless task which we must have been mad to take on, We
e did and we regret nothing. Your view is respected but you do not have the only voice here........

Anyway what you personally think about us is nothing really. We have been insulted, ridiculed, lied about, criticised and more but we carried on using the only tools we had available to us. If you think that sort of behaviour is or was acceptable that is very sad and I am sure that Benedict would also not find acceptable. There are also those who seem to think it was a badge of honour to challenge moderators on internet fora, not just this one. They are usually promptly dealt with and banned. That is for 'troll' like behaviour. I don't know of any reputable fora that tolerates such behaviour.

So, that's it for now Patch, the place is all yours.......

That whole post was absolute jibberish.

Why on earth should I have been banned? Truth is you don't like me. That doesn't bother me, but it felt (to me) like you were abusing your mod status and using it to try to shut me up.

There was a clash of personalities. That happens. You don't get immunity from criticism because you're a mod. I'll treat you exactly the same now as I always have. Based on the way you treat me.

I've tried to get along with you, but you just don't share my sense of humour. I'm sure you've taken offense to light hearted posts that I've left up. That's your problem. In my mind, these posts were olive branches

Let it go, innit? Just enjoy being a member without the pressure of being a mod.

"The king is dead, long live the king" as it goes but the problem is that every time the "king" is replaced things can get either a lot worse or even better. Let us hope for the latter because even the "good" can be improved.

On this Forum we are mostly adults. In life we take responsibility for our own actions and accept the consequences that incur from transgression. It's much the same on a Forum. Whether you like a moderator or Boss is immaterial , if there are rules then you follow them. I'm sure you have rules at work you don't like but have to follow.

Patch
You post and I respond to you in a common sense way and you call it gibberish !

What part don't you understand ? Most adults here understand perfectly. What I think about you has no bearing whatsoever in how you were dealt with. You were treated no differently to anybody else. You must be very touchy if you think you were. I have a very thick skin and have endured insults from far worse people than you Patch. I don't really care what you think about me personally, you are just someone I had to deal with. One of thousands of people here over the last two years.

You were always a pain in the butt Patch. Just one of lifes characters. In the same way that I am but as I said you don't know me, you only think you do.

The issue was one of moderation, it is only you that seeks to bring personalities into it.......

What is the point in answering you when your attitude is so resentful and childish. We always wasted our time with you, seems nothing much has changed as far as you are concerned .......

Your brain doesn't work right Ken. I don't know how you can come to those conclusions about me when all you have to go on are my posts here, and our PM exchanges. You're the one with the problem, not me.

You are not a reasonable person - you should never have been allowed to be a moderator/monitor (tomato/tomatoe). All of our exchanges have escalated into arguments because of you. You're easily offended, you need to work on that.

Anyhoo - this thread is not about me and you. It's about the change in moderation. A change that I welcome.

Sorry this got personal, benedict. Consider it a baptism of fire.

Peace, Love and late nights.

If I didn't know you better Patch I would come to the conclusion that you want to destroy the forum :? .
I find it difficult to take you seriously as you contribute to " he who shalt not be named's" blog.

Your words speak volumes about you and your assumptions fit in well with all the accusations made by your little circle of friends who have attacked Sue and I over the years.

Your eloquence, your dignity, your insight, your wit, your intelligence shine through like a beacon. I am so much in awe of your unbiased comments there is really nothing much left to say to you.

What a man ..........a real asset to the Community here.

Well said Ken!

I do not know what happens to people on these forums and the obsessions they develop about individuals- probably nothing else to do!
I have no doubt some experts have identified it as a "syndrome" but it certainly does bring out very obsessive and strange behaviour - I am sure you know what I mean!

Hope you are well Ken .
Ally

Wanting to say thankyou to Ken and Sue for the work they have done as board monitors. I've only been around a short time, having been diagnosed in January, but this board has been a real help to me in coming to terms with having a disorder that can lead to premature death, amputation and blindness. Without the information and support I have received here I'm sure I wouldn't have felt as able to start to change my behaviour so as to reduce the likelihood of those possibilities becoming inevitabilities. A lot of that is down to the members who post their views and experience, but that is itself down to the board having been run in a way that has always struck me as friendly and fair.

I hope to be still able to say the same thing this time next year.

Thanks Ken and Sue for your help in the few short months that I have been on this forum, with this help I have managed to turn my diabetes around.
Now, can we all just stick to helping others with diabetes in whatever way works for them?
These personal attacks are both sad and dismaying, they do nothing to promote this forum's status whatsoever.

Patch mate, you really need to let it go, Ken is no longer a mod or monitor so try to get over it.

It just looks like a personal attack now, move on eh...
