Does anyone know what the latest BG monitor is and what they think of it? Not sure whether to upgrade and change my current monitor (I have a USB Contour Next) which I have to say I really like but just wondered if there is anything better out there. Thanks

Id say it depends what you want from a meter, over the years Ive tried loads and I keep coming back to my faithful old Accu-Chek Aviva but I just use it now for occasional checks Im not into monitoring my results on a computer or anything like that any more so If I was I might choose something else.

The Bayer Contour next USB is also a good compact meter though which I enjoyed using till the (free) strips ran out! And I cant be bothered to change my prescription. I only get one pack a year now on script so if I want any more I have to buy them myself or rely on freebies ;)

I have always found the Aviva to be pretty accurate and it suits my needs. But at the end of the day its down to personal choice.

Depends what you want from your meter (for example if you were a insulin user you might want a meter like the Aviva Expert which has a built-in bolus calculator), I've used the Next meter and found it be a great little meter and particularly liked how compact it is.

I would check out the company websites such as Bayer & Accuchek etc to find out what their latest meters are and what features they offer.

For convenience, the Accu Chek Mobile is a good choice. The strips are inside a cassette, which is inserted in the meter, and therefore there is no handling of the strips involved so less risk of contamination and less stuff to carry round. The Fastclix lancet pen comes with the meter, and this is by far the best and easiest for finger pricking. The downside is the cost of replacement cartridges - around £25 for a cassette of 50, but can be obtained cheaper on eBay.

We just got the accu chek mobile and it's fantastic

It's a great meter :) I love mine - for convenience and because it's pretty robust.

It's only downside is the fact it needs a reasonable size drop of blood quite carefully placed. Don't let any error messages you may get freak you out. There's a knack to the blood placement. Once you pick that up, all's good :)

We've been using much smaller drops than before! A few times I've wondered if it would be enough but no issues yet :)

Oh and it's pink! Haha

I love my glucomen lx plus, fast and compact. Also it can test for ketones with separate strips.:nurse:
