I saw an article in my magazine that chia seeds lower blood sugar levels. Has anyone had or tried them. They are very cheap to buy, so if good are worth a try.

Hello, I’m speaking for type 1 diabetes, possibly not because I need insulin for just about everything. But it is high in fibre so it’ll be good at keeping hunger at bay. I can’t speak for type 2 diabetes who are controlled with lchf diet.

I eat chia seeds most days. I added them to my diet mainly for added fibre as I became constipated when I first went low carb. There are many claims that they lower cholesterol, blood sugars etc.. my cholesterol and blood sugars improved after starting eating them, however it’s difficult to say it was as a direct result of the chia seeds or was a continued improvement that would have happened anyway?

I use chia seeds (milled at home) as an alternative to milled flaxseed sometimes, which is a source of ALA for me (an essential omega 3 fatty acid which is rare in the plant kingdom). I count the carbs in them for insulin purposes but I haven't noticed that I over-inject for the meals when I've eaten the seeds, which you would think would happen if the seeds lowered blood sugar.

I have never tried chia seeds. However, I have generous helpings of flaxseed (daily), which are also said to lower blood sugars, although I have no idea how they do this, or if they have done so with me. I have the milled flaxseed because of the omega 3 content (anti-inflammatory) and the fibre.

I use chia seeds to make a milky pudding with full fat milk. Nice with berries or rhubarb etc.
