Tomatoes. Mayo.
This is the one thing that I can't get past - chips with nearly every evening meal. Boiled potatoes, rice, pasta, mash... All a bit rubbish. Oven chips are OK, so I don't mind using them instead... but I just can't seem to do without my chips.

Anyone else have their one thing that they have stuck on?

have you tried making chips with cellariac sorry that might not be the correct spelling I have not tryed it myself as I dont really like chips anyway.
was told by other diabetics that these chips are good deep fry them the same as chips and they have a considerably lower carb content than potatoe chips.

the one thing I miss the most is white crusty bread

Crusty White Bread........mmmmh ! I sometimes treat myself to a slice of home baked with lashings of real butter, some Ham and Garner's pickles.....heaven. I also love just a few Oven Chips once in a while. Not regular food (as some seem to think) but definitely a treat which does little or nothing to my Bg levels, mind you I am on Byetta as well. :D

What I really, really miss is.........Golden Syrup sandwiches......<drool>

I'm lucky in that I can manage small amounts of chips, I find it is useful if they are sprinkled liberally with vinegar  I know it's a British thing but it does help slow down the digestion of carbs :D

Good to see you back posting again cugila 8)

A really gooey pudding. Like sticky toffee or banoffee pie. I know there are alternatives that are just as sweet but it's that sticky, gooey texture I miss and that only seems to come with carbs! But I have had a mouthful of my hubbies here and there on high days and holidays :D

I cannot live without bread, be it crusty, wholemeal or with fruit in yummm :) I try not to eat too much......... :?

I miss my Bacon, Egg, Sausage, Mushroom and Tomato on thick crusty bread with brown sauce and black pepper!!!

(Mind you, I still have it but without the bread :D !!)

All the best Steve

I cant believe I used to eat Jalebi!

It's an Indian Sweet and is actualy fried syrup, now what could be worse than that!!

How peculiar! lol... never heard of celeriac before. I'll give this a go :D Just checked it on Tesco.com (other supermarkets are available);

Typical Values 100g contains 80g
Energy 74kJ (18kcal) 59kJ (14kcal)
Protein 1.2g 1.0g
Carbohydrate 2.3g 1.8g
Sugars 1.8g 1.4g
Fat 0.4g 0.3g
Fibre 3.7g 3.0g
Sodium* 0.1g 0.1g
*Salt Equivalent 0.3g 0.2g

Some people soak the celeriac before cooking them to remove some of the strong taste. I'm yet to try it - but it's on the list.

[EDIT: Just found out that they also call Celeriac "Rastafarian Turnip!". That's much cooler than calling it "Celeriac". I'll be back soon with Patch's Recipe for Rasta Chips! That recipe will basically be oven baked celeriac chips with jamaican jerk seasoning. Copyright Patch - 2011. ]

I eat celeriac all the time now. Basically you can do whatever you would do with a spud. When roasted it retains a lot of its "parsnipy" flavour. When boiled or stewed it is a lot less pungent. I love celeriac chips. I sprinkle them with all purpose seasoning. Its hard to get them crispy like spud chips but they are very palatable. Also mashed celeriac with butter and a bit of milk tastes just like creamed potatoes. My wife makes me cottage pie topped with celeriac mash. Just like the "real" thing.

All the best - Steve

I love chips too, but luckily only really nice crispy ones like you get in pubs, I don't like oven chips or soggy fish and chip shop chips, so this means I don't eat them very often!

I hate potato in any other form (except crisps which I shouldnt eat I know), I'm quite pleased that now I have an excuse not to eat it, I can just say 'too many carbs' rather than 'I don't like it'!
