What's best please dark over 70% chocolate or diabetic chocolate many thanks

It is definitely a matter of personal taste.
I recommend doing a taste test with a few options.
My partner preferred the Lidl one. I preferred Aldi. We both found the Green and Blacks too bitter and the Lindt too sweet.

We did our taste testing with a bottle of red wine. Red wine and dark chocolate go well and are a good low carb treat.

Not quite what you're asking, but I've been doing cocoa powder in hot water with some milk or cream added. It's not quite as sweet as chocolate of course, but it does the trick for me.

I'd prob stay away from diabetic choc because of its laxative effect, small amounts of choc are OK (with a mea)l and if on insulin taken into consideration when dosing.

I like Montezuma's Absolute Black 100% cocoa chocolate bars, with no added sugar, no gluten, soya free and made without dairy ingredients. Perfect if you're on a keto or low carb diet, also good for those with food intolerances, I imagine.

Perhaps it's an acquired taste, but quickly grew on me. It's rich and intense, so a square or two after lunch goes a long way.

I like the Hotel Chocolate 70% batons and Ginger and Hazelnut squares. They are rich that I can only manage 3-4 at a time.

When I was first diagnosed the most useful advice my DN gave me was to avoid anything specifically labelled as diabetic, so I've never tried that chocolate option..

Instead I have Lindt 85% dark chociolate, but their higher % is too bitter for me.

I also tried a while back tmaking my own chocolate combining pure cocoa powder with coconut oil and stevia. A bit of a hassle.but I regularly use the powder for drinks, and baking, or with sweetener and cream or creme fraiche in puddings.

Ditto particularly the one with orange niblets.

I tried 100% chocolate today and I can nibble about a 1/4 of a square! How long did it take to grow on you?

I’d been slowly increasing 70 85 95% it was the next step. Couldn’t cope with anything less now. Mind you I don’t eat anything sweet these days bar fruit. Never went down the artificial sweetener route.

Hubby with his work had a tasting session with a very high end chocolatier (not a high street brand) they did chocolate tasting and apparently the trick with high cocoa chocolate is to break a tiny piece off and let it melt slowly in your mouth to acclimatise your taste buds then have a bigger piece but only let it melt don’t bite or chew it. It does work but I rarely have the patience for that.

Also 100% goes very well with a tot of whisky- hubby liked that bit lol

Hi @Cornymine . Have you tried any disbetic chocolates. I would avoid any foods labelled as being ‘diabetic’ as the sugar substitutes used in their manufacture can havea devastating laxative effect. More info in the following article..

Much prefer, if at all, a small amount of high cocoa content 70% +, dark chocolate.

I'd recommend these two. The Aldi one is more "chocolatey" whereas the Tesco one tastes faintly of notes of vanilla. They're both very nice.
