That's the thing. They come in packs of 4 or 6. Just 1..... Mmmmm shall see where my BS are by then. When you live alone there is no one to share with. Then they have to actually like fresh figs lol
I've managed for over 8 years to make my fresh fig packs last for a week, and I rarely ever share my food now, except by special request! :hungry: :stop:
So, single small figs aren't a problem for me, and as long as I regularly keep my glucose levels within my target ranges, I'm not overly concerned about odd minor blips (and I'm likely to see worse from non dietary issues anyway....) Hopefully you too can enjoy an occasional figgy indulgence without feeling too concerned about playing havoc with your glucose levels...

Whilst I’m thinking about food. ( I seem to spend quite a lot of time doing that), Has anyone found either a decent low carb wrap, or a good recipe for one?
I've eaten quite a few store bought low carb wraps, they all seem to be quite cardboardy.
A very, very thin omelet is a tasty substitute, and depending on the filling you can even make it with a crusty cheese crust: Grate cheese. Put in a thin layer in a buttered/oiled frying pan. Let fry for a bit before pouring the beaten egg over it. :hungry:

Spicy food which is too hot. Nasty people who have no idea on your life journey but feel the need to comment and be cruel.
I'm staying keto and enjoying the planned roast rib of beef with lots of green veg. It's served me so well sticking to T2-friendly food, I haven't the slightest desire to eat anything that would wreck it. I'm neither a prig nor a saint, but I am sensible - it's an underrated attribute.

All the best for all of you who intend to eat other things - I hope you have lots to enjoy, and a really happy time.
Rib of Beef sounds fabulous. Enjoy

I get the Bfree protein wraps from Sainsbury or Tesco. They are about £3.80 for a packet of 4, so expensive but worth it to me for the convenience for the days I am in the office and need lunch. Only around 4g of carbs per wrap.

Social mixing most sport, Soaps!
Hi,
Does anyone allow themselves treats? Are you planning any treats at Christmas?
Is it ok to have a treat?
I was diagnosed as T2D in October 2021. Since then I have had virtually none of the things that with hindsight, I realise we’re my undoing!
I was especially strict last Christmas, but this Christmas, with by A1C at 43, I’m planning on having a few small treats.
My weaknesses were, Cadbury’s Dairy Milk. Chunky Kit Kats. Custard Tarts (usuall from Aldi, but in an emergency any would suffice).
Custard creams and Pringles.
Over the Christmas period I’m planning on having one Chunky Kit Kat, one custard tart and a few squares of Dairy milk!
What are your treats?
Also has anyone discovered or made any good snacks?
A very ( early) Merry Christmas.
Cheers Nick.
I have found that once I start to eat anythi

I have found that once I start to eat anything 'off limits' then it's too difficult to get back on track for several weeks and then I am annoyed with myself. It's just not worth it personally and fortunately I dislike rich festive foods, especially the sweet or stodgy ones. As someone else on the thread said 'these so called must have foods are not all that amazing. My weight loss and health are though :)

Hi, I make a lentil pancake that I use as pancake, wrap, lentil noodles (cut into strips ) if you are interested. It is my only success at making low carb wraps. Let me know if you want the recipe.

Hi Nick,
I'm probably not going down that route as my HbA1c is still 46 and I was only diagnosed in May - really want to get it down!! You may find that the treats you used to like no longer taste good. My dad was diabetic and one Christmas he really wanted a piece of Christmas cake but when he tasted it didn't like it - it was too sweet! He had got so used to not having sweet things.

I woke up to this post in my Newsletter and I really love it. Although my Hbac1 is soso at 65 it could be a lot better and it's been an ongoing journey.

I've been cutting more and more things out with my determination to lower my score.

For me the social events will be the toughest and the biscuits. I'm going to see how much I can lower my sugar levels before then and maybe treat myself to one dessert per social occasion.

All the best with it everyone.

I am due my next blood test mid December so I will see what it is before I make any decisions (in September it was 47, down from 75 in May and 69 in June). Thankfully I don't actually like a lot of traditional Christmas treats so more chocolate, potatoes and trifle/roulade. I am hoping to have a little toffee and pecan roulade from Aldi for pudding on Christmas day and a few potatoes with dinner (I don't eat a lot of them anyway). I usually do a batch of twice baked potatoes, does that change the GI the same way it does for pasta? Fully prepared to give them a miss though. I will miss having the tubs of chocolate but I will cope with alternatives I am sure. Plenty of cheese for me lol (and nuts).

Junket, I found exactly the same as your father ... that things I once liked all tasted so sweet that it was like poison ... and of course that's precisely what sugar is!

Do you chill the potatoes between their two cookings? If so that could reduce their glycemic impact a bit. x
I'm with you on the cheese and nuts. Nom nom. I've just ordered some roasted macadamia 'butter' to use in a few home made treats too.

I find any chocolate less than about 70% cocoa burns my throat with the sweetness. I stick with 85%, which my kids say tastes just like vegemite!! :woot:. I guess after a time on low carb (especially if you don't use artificial sweeteners?) the taste buds just adjust.

Actually I usually make and freeze them ahead of time then defrost and stick in the oven on the day but even if I was having some the day of prep they are usually cold by the time I have put the mash back in the skins.
The butter sounds nice, I hope it works well

My first Christmas I searched for low carb subs for my favourite treats. I made low carb mince pies (ground almonds with a little butter for the crust and a mix of cooking apples, dried unsweetened cranberries and loads of spices), I made sage and onion stuffing with ground almonds instead of breadcrumbs, and I melted some 90% chocolate, add some warmed cream and sweetener and flavouring (orange) to half of it and made almond paste with sweetener and rolled it in the rest of the chocolate.
Now I usually make a low carb fruit cake, again with extra spices and dried cranberries along with a little cooking apple.

And kohlrabi makes a roasted potato sub if you boil if first then put in the oven with oil.
You sound like a T2 Domestic Goddess! I'd love to try some of your recipes!

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I was diagnosed T2D in May 2022 last A1C 47, and am struggling to get away from the family christmas dinner I've cooked for the past 40 years. I've managed to make changes for 2 family members who are now gf, so I guess I just need to stop panicking.

I take a lowish carb chocolate mousse to events where I'll be tempted, decorated with a few fresh raspberries. One tub of double cream 90% or higher chocolate and a little sweetener.

Have you tried Kohlrabi as a sub for roast potatoes? I parboil mine first as they take longer to cook inside. Then 3 types of green veg or 2 plus cauliflower mash? That plus my stuffing made with ground almonds instead of breadcrumbs and the juice from the roast instead of gravy - then the main course is fine. Followed by a low carb Xmas style cake for pud or chocolate mousse.
