Clove Powder

Hi. I was given a tip about clove powder capsules as a good way of controlling blood sugar. I was wary at first but tried it in tea and my levels have dropped and stayed down below. 5.8. I spoke to my dietician first. No more than 250mg, twice a day, was used in a scientific study in the US. It showed a 25-30% drop in levels. So I tried it. Anyone else tried it. Im ordering my capsules tonight.
 
I think @shelley262 tried it. I sometimes have a clove tea using a whole clove. Tastes nice but I hadn't noticed any particular effect on my bg

Thankyou for that. Ill let the forum know how it goes. But at the moment Im quite optimistic.
 
Several spices are thought to lower blood sugars, I’ve tried ginger, tumeric and cinnamon in the past. However please do your research, there can be other unwanted side effects, the one I noticed especially with turmeric is that it thins the blood, it made me bruise very easily. There is even advice to stop taking it two weeks before surgery because of this.

Gosh I do remember that now used ginger and whole cloves brewed up as a tea! I do have my enthusiasms! I liked the taste but not convinced it made much difference 're blood glucose numbers for me.

I was listening this evening to the doctors kitchen podcast with the Glucose Goddess who is about to launch a new supplement called I think sugar spike which she suggests as one to take before a carby meal it seems it's a mix of mulberry leaf, cinnamon, lemon peel and green veg powder! The lemon zest is meant to act a bit like ozempic seemingly! Don't know how much they'll charge for it and if it will work on not! However I do rate eating fruit peels for gut health so maybe I need to look at lemon zest again!

@MrsA2 just adding an edit. I was thinking why I'd done a clove tea and wondered if it was more of a gut health reason id done it to encourage my gut health rather than bg management and I was right it was from Dr William Davis Super gut book it helps build mucous lining of the gut to reduce permeability of the gut. It uses whole cloves not groundl plus green tea and cinnamon. cloves are firstly boiled in water and simmered for10 mins to release clove oil with cinnamon stick then green tea bag added for a min. You can strain cloves and cinnamon and reuse then a few times. Tea can be sipped cold throughout the day. I do feel good gut health helps bg management overall.

Hi Shelley. I am now on Day 7 wih 5 of them on capsules. I have not been above 5.8 since starting. I had a 5.5 this morning. I have not had morning syndrom not adrenalin attacks on waking up neither. Its only a week but Ill keep everyone informed.

I have read about Okra, anyone with experience with it.
 
I'm fasting at the moment. My BGL has been under 5.5 for weeks. It may be a mix of things, as I do lots of fitness. However I do believe it is stopping me getting the morning adrenalin bursts. That was my prime issue.

Wise words. Did some background reading on these spice claims and there are numerous reports suggesting a mechanism of action is to stimulate insulin secretion (from pancreas cells).

So I guess this is an interesting prospect for controlling BG in Type 2 and pre-diabetes but for Type I it's irrelevant.

Hi Ian. I used to get adrenalin burst in the morning. Without them I would be between 5.8 to 6.5. With them I've been up to 7+. I was ill and decided to make a herbalbtea from scratch. I used Cloves, Tumeric, Ginger, and Cinnamon. I noticed my morning BGL was lowering. I was discussing with my mate in the US and he said he had read a study that it reduces BGL by up to 30%. He spoke to his Doctor and dietician and they concluded with him. He takes 2 per day. No more than the equivalent on 250mg. To be clear. Cloves have several studied medicinal purposes. Not just that it can reduce BGL. But too much is bad for the digestive system. However, I have just reset my system. I completed a 3 day fasting. I have reduced my BGL to 4.3 as of this morning. It cleared my body of all glycogen and I lost 5lbs. Now it is just to keep the body on Interval fasting. I fast 8/16. So all in all diet,bfitnes training and willpower has helped my. Now I understand how the body resets. Unfortunately it will not work for type 1 diabetes. But pre and type 2 can be reversed. A 3 day fast is not hard. The trick is fooling the hunger pangs with psyllium husk. It fills the hole. If you do mix it with water and let it quell then drink it. 10g is only 10 blank calories so will not effect the fasting. Anything up to 50 calories without carbs is OK.
 
I am interested your method, @Mallyman , but if you were fasting at the same time you used the supplement, then you are not able to determine whether it was one or both of the variables that worked in your experiment. Or indeed both worked together?

Sorry, I failed to say I stopped the clove powder on the fasting. That was the advice by my Dietician. As I said, it will effect digestion if too much is taken. On a completely empty stomach we were not going to take any chances. As for the fasting, once your liver has been drained of glycogen, you go into ketosis and autophagy.

That's very interesting. I regularly do 36 hour fasts (8pm day 1 to 8am day 3), but have trouble sleeping on day 2. Maybe the psyllium husk trick might work for me.
Fasting and LC plus resistance training usually works well for me, but the stars have to align for me to be really consistent with all three.

I have vowed to do this every 3 months. Now I have cleared my system, I can keep it low. I've gone cold turkey on everything. Even coffee with no sweetener or milk. I just do not like oat or nut milk. However I was given a tip with Mascapone in skimmed milk to make it creamier for porridge or cooking to reduce carbs. Downside is more fat‍.
 
Cinnamon can be toxic - depending on the type you use. The cheaper "cinnamon" is Cinnamomum cassia and has much higher levels of coumarin which can cause liver damage if consumed in high quantities regularly. "True cinnamon" Cinnamomum verum also has coumarin - but far less so "safer".


Due to the variable amount of coumarin in C. cassia, usually well over 1.0 mg of coumarin per g of cinnamon and sometimes up to 12 times that, C. cassia has a low safe-intake-level upper limit to adhere to the above TDI. In contrast, C. verum has only trace amounts of coumarin.

I only use ceylon cinnamon. The other **** is what you find in processed foods.

Not the only place. Most ground cinnamon you see in the shop spice aisle is the bad kind (at least in the UK). The price difference is quite large - so you also get a lot of “fake” mislabeled cinnamon.

If you buy it whole, it is difficult to mistake as they look very different.

Im in Germany. We get ours from a herbalist/Bio Shop it is a trusted shop. All our spices. Or from the market fresh. Then we grow many of the main herbs. We're buying a dryer soon, so we will dry them out and bottle or jar them. I made my own peanut butter this morning. Fresh peanuts roasted on the hob then blitz to a paste. Making Protein bars for the gym later.
