We have found a great Maple Syrup to have over our flax seed pancakes I think it's called 'Skinny syrup'My wife made me a keto/coconut flour waffle and it was pretty darn good with cream cheese and blackberries.OK,it wasnt House of Pancakes sinfully good (no maple syrup),but was a winner still.Im looking forward to more of those.
Ive found ordering these diabetic food ingredients online easy and good prices.
I have enjoyed getting involved with planning the meals AND cooking them! Thanks so much everyone. The response has been overwhelming xx
I have trawled the site and have found some fantastic recipes for sweet an savoury food. I’m thinking that the actual act of baking might take my mind off it a bit as well.
Thank you so so much xxx

These are all absolutely to die for!
Hi @Flic2019 l hope the shock, anger and bewilderment are beginning to ease. I found that cooking fresh foods and new recipes really helped. Actually cooking rather than reheating or opening a packet helps to focus the mind on what you are eating! Thanks so much everyone. The response has been overwhelming xx

Hi @Flic2019.I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago.
I’m waiting to hear back about bloods as they don’t know yet if it’s type 1 or type 2 (more likely to be type 2 o think)
I was diagnosed and released from hosp after 4 days and that’s it I’ve been on my own.
First appointment with diabetic nurse isn’t until 19th June
I just feel so overwhelmed I think. It was kinda thrown on me and I feel completely alone with it.
Xxx
Go Go @Flic2019!!!!Thanks once again guys. Its been amazing to have people who want to support me. I have never reallly had that in real life so its a bit weird for me. But its great.
Sugars are high this morning. My fault. Cant blame anything else this morning. But I have a lot of food for thought with this thread. I am printing out recipes as we speak. I am going out to lunch today (Toby Carvery so not too difficult to sort) and i will try and make my own dessert for after, a nice low sugar and as low carb one as possible. Its about making changes isnt it? If i avoid carbs while im out, i can afford a couple extra later.
I am so used to just eating whatever i fancy. I guess its just a game of stopping myself from eating what i "fancy" and eating what i need to eat. I will get there. I absolutely feel like I have this. Wobbles and freak outs aside, im positive i can make all the changes i need to make.
I think its just going to take a little more time that i initially thought xxx

Have you had a clear type diagnosis yet? Most of the useful advice above is aimed at T2. If you get a T1 diagnosis stuff is a bit different although dietary choices are completely up to you.
Hope all goes well until then and keep us posted. Not yet. I have an appointment on 18th June so assuming I will find out then xxx
Hi again. You are quite young to be T2 but it happens. If you are not overweight and have lost weight recently then the indication would tend towards T1 rather than T2. When you see the nurse and if you are quite slim and she isn't sure of the diagnosis then do ask for the T1 tests if they aren't offered. The diet approach for either can be roughly the same. Although T1s can use insulin to match the carbs but many like me need to keep the carbs down anyway to avoid weight gain. Not yet. I have an appointment on 18th June so assuming I will find out then xxx
