Confused about diagnosis

So... as you can see from my profile I'm a diagnosed prediabetic. I hope that you don't mind that I'm posting here.
My doctor diagnosed me with a HBA1C being in the prediabetic range, OGTT (prediabetic as well)
and fasting blood glucose, which turned out very high on 2 tests (in a range for diabetes) but not every time.

Since then I've been closely monitoring my blood sugar at home.

What concerns me the most is that most of the days, my FBG is over 7mmol/l. It can go up to 10 mmol/l. It is almost never under 7 though. I'm seeing some concerning numbers 2 hours after a meal as well.

My question is: Is it possible that my prediabetes has progressed and the FBG is actually the first indicator that shows it?

Another question: How can I know if it has actually progressed? Should I wait until my next HBA1C to make such assumptions?

The blood finger tests are a spot measure, while HbA1c is an average over 3 months. I found as I moved towards remission I relied more on the spot figures to make sure all my readings were in range.
We expect a small spike after a meal which includes any carbohydrate, but too big a rise means we had too many carbs.

Thank you for your reply. I understand that the finger test is just a "snapshot" so to speak, and they cannot be used for a diagnosis, but can I use them to see if my condition is getting better or worse?

If you are not pushing the progression towards higher blood glucose levels by eating high carb foods then - assuming ordinary type 2 diabetes was where you were headed, things ought to be controlled or reversed.
I was way into type 2 numbers with a Hba1c of 91, but quickly dropped to normal numbers - I never checked my waking blood glucose levels as there was nothing I could do to alter them other than checking and acting on after meal levels.

Maybe you are right that I can't directly control my fasting numbers, but I want to know if things are headed towards better or worse.

But I don't know if a higher FBG would be good or bad when taken at a particular stage in either progression or reversal.
It could mean that your reserves are emptying out and lowering the stress on your body rather than something bad going on.
