These are my readings for today. I forgot to record my breakfast ones but this is how ive done today.ImageUploadedByDCUK Forum1424545090.806020.jpg
Im now 4.5 hours after lunch and im still not hungry and haven't eaten or drank anything after it so im confused as to why my bg has gone up 0.3 in an hour without taking any food. Can anyone advise please?

What was lunch?

It could be anything, really. Sorry that sounds so vague, but here are a few potential reasons, off the top of my head :)

  • Your lunch may have been very rich, or high protein, or high fibre, so slow to digest
  • You may be stressed
  • Your liver may have dumped a smidge of glucose to bring your BG back up to the higher levels it is used to experiencing
  • You may have been exercising (sometimes liver dumpage happens then too)
But most likely it is just the natural inaccuracy of your meter.

They are only accurate to within about a 10-15% ballpark figure, so it is worth bearing this in mind for every test you ever take.

The testing is good for spotting big jumps and drops, but for the daily grind, it is best to test a food several times and get a general trend.

The headache... Maybe have a drink. Most people need to up their fluid intake on low carb, especially during the first few weeks.

Ive just done another test using my new code free meter and its up to 8.5!!

Lunch was chicken breast, mushrooms, a sprinkling of peppers cooked in one of those maggi bags split between me and my son, wich grated cauliflower instead of rice. To fix a sweet craving i had a coffee with cream sweetened with stevia and that's been my lot for the day. Im just not hungry

I haven't drank as much water as I usually do, could that be the problem?

Oh gosh can it change depending on the finger you use? The 8.5 was using my middle finger. Ive done my usual index finger now and got 7.8! Can my middle finger really be sweeter than the index?

And again, index finger 7.1. I think my new meter might not be accurate :(

Hello Muggle

Have you handled food? That could give a false reading.

It could well be your meter, I think, though may be wrong, that readings can be within a few 'points' difference.

I've also had a splitting headache for the last two days, it may be the reducing of carbs.

Hope you are well and have had some sleep.

Hey Scottie, good to see you back. Im tucked up on the sofa already (i don't have a bedroom so i sleep in the front room on the sofa). Just lyin in the dark hoping my head will ease. I don't know what to make of those readings, anyway my finger is sore so the meter is put away. I'll check again tomorrow. Hope you're doing ok!!

Muggle, have you tried some extra salt? I find salt often helps. Try half a teaspoon in a small glass of water. If lack of salt is the problem you'll notice the difference very soon.

Extra salt and extra water is the remedies for low carb flu. First three days usually the worst.

Thanks toto, I think I might gag if I tried to drink that, could i add extra salt to my meals tomorrow?

I drink a good quality stock cube in hot water every day - it's about 1.5 g salt, tastes like bovril or cuppasoups, just tops up my intake nicely.

Of course but if you are feeling a bit off you could try some extra salt in any way you fancy now, it works more or less instantly.

Broth, proper broth.

I've spent the day making chicken broth. Why do you say chicken when it's several years since they were chickens? These were old hens, very fatty and will make marvellous broth.

Sorry I can't help but next time someone sticks a middle finger up directed at me I'll be thinking .... thankyou how sweet!

Would you believe i suffered with that headache for hours, Nurofen didn't shift it yet i had 4 finn crisps with butter and sprinkled salt on and within half an hour my headache was gone! Im still stunned. LCHF has turned everything I thought i knew about healthy eating completely on its head. I mean SALT cured my headache!! I just can't believe it lol! :)

I could just drink an Oxo.

Hope you feel better soon Muggle xx
Thanks Scottie, I do enjoy a bovril drink, can't imagine oxo being much different so I will give that a go some time. Im feeling much better, just a shame im wide awake and raring to go when it's 2:30 am lol x
