Hello mugle71 big welcome to the forum,i use the same meter and so far so good! Could you give your doc an ear bashing and get the strips on prescription?i had my chemist ring one of the other doc's in the practice and got them prescribed.
It is a shock to discover you have diabetes, but as i found from all the wonderful people on this forum,it is controllable and with care even bearable! Please keep posting and any q's ask ask ask ::))

I also have an Accu Chek my nurse gave me (without a prescription for replacement strips). I use my Codefree, and keep the AC as a spare and do an odd cross check with it.

Thanks Clivethedrive, my gp has never ever suggested i rest my levels. Ive had 1 foot test and 1 blood test by the gp in 4 years! As the gp didn't seem too concerned neither did I. I just didn't want to accept that i had it. I felt shame, disgust and self loathing because I thought I'd brought it on myself. So i promptly buried my head in the sand and carried on as I had done before and ignored it. But im here now and im getting more support here than ive had in 4 years from the "experts". I think I know where im better off

Regarding needles, I only change it when I think it needs to be changed. Sometimes I only change once or twice per pot of strips.

Hi @Muggle71. You should really use a new needle every time you test to avoid cross contamination. Hope you find the forum helpful, there are lots of knowledgeable peeps here. I do lchf and its done wonders with my bgs

Oh i thought the needles had to be changed every time you tested
Of course, but who can be ***** to and I've so far not had any problems regardless my sloppy testing habits.

So long as it is only yourself who uses the needle of course. If you intend to stab somebody else you really should put a new needle in.

On waking it was 7.5 im trying to be really economical with the strips and needles as they are very expensive. Ive just rang the Dr and I can have them prescribed but not until my appt 11 March :/ can't even get a phone consultation any earlier

Pardon!!!! Did you just say you can have strips on prescription! !!!!
Address and name of doctor please! !!!
There's about 90 percent of us type 2 on this site that have been refused meters and strips.
Hang on to that doctor. He maybe useless in the info department, but if you can get strips, well done.

You may feel that you are being bombarded with info at the moment. But stay with us the fog will lift.

I've had type 2 for about five plus years, and on metformin.
I stumbled on this site about 3 weeks ago, the support is amazing.

I am trying hard to follow the lchf thing. So far I have cut out all bread and potatoes.

Stay and ask as many questions as you like.

I think blue tooth is much better than Blue Tit.:singing:

Ive never been seen for four years, at the appointment after being diagnosed in hospital i had a blood test, a foot check and was given an A4 computer print out. Never once was it suggested I should check my blood ever! It was only cos ive felt rubbish that I thought it would be a good idea. After reading on this forum that some gp's prescribe I thought I'd ring up and try my luck. He might still say no at the actual appt but hey the shy kid never gets the low carb biscuit lol

I'm another that doesn't change needles very often. I change mine when the old one is too blunt to draw blood.

Get yourself a Codefree before you bankrupt yourself. I can give you the promo code for discounts on 5 or 10 boxes of 50 strips a box if you wish.
