Hi guys... I've been diagnosed with type 1 for about 8 years now, and I'm now beginning to really struggle with hypos despite having a settled life!

For example, I took my bolus insulin around 1230 before my lunch, (I do 1:1) and then I had low BM around 540, which was 3.2. I took a hypo treatment (5 energy tablets as I was having tea soon) and went up to 3.7 - so positive

Checked before tea and my levels was 7. Ate tea (potato wedges and fish, no insulin given) and straight after my levels had dropped to 4 and was dropping!

Has anyone had any similar experiences like this?

Also can anyone recommend best hypo treatment?

Thanks! Rhia :)

Hi @rsteele92 and welcome to the forum. What's your basal, when do you take it and how much ? Generally quick acting insulin only lasts about 4 hours so it sounds like your basal is causing the lows. Basal needs can change with the seasons, I need less in spring/summer vs Autumn/winter, also depending on hormones, stress levels etc.

Personally I have either glucogel or 3 jelly babies, both bring me up fairly quick, some have orange juice or lucozade, any of these do the job ;)

@rsteele92, @Juicyj is right tge basal seems to be the culprit, if you search Salford on the forum you will find advice on how to check basal. On personal experience I would also recommend getting a Freestyle Libre for a few weeks and you will see exactly what goes on during the day and overnight which is s big help.
