I do not have diabetes
Hello, hoping I may be able to gain so helpful info from members whilst trying to get a gp face to face appt

Previously my blood sugars were on the higher side and gp suggested changes and monitoring.

I have been testing myself and my readings first thing in the morning can be high, approx 6.6
But during the day and 90 mins after eating they seem to be in range of approx 7

With readings like this would it be diabetic readings?

Thanks in advance

It sounds like you might be getting a touch of DP (dawn phenomenon) which is an increase of hormones that release some glucose from the liver in preparation for getting ready for the day before you wake. In "normal" people you produce insulin to deal with it. I'm just not sure how long it takes for a "normal" to deal with it? Since the first I knew about it was when I had diabetes and had started getting it. So does a normal deal with it before they wake? After? I just don't know. Maybe someone does. What you might try is taking your BG level 30-60 minutes after you wake up and see if you are still higher, because a "normal" should have taken care of it before that. But there is also something called FOTF, Foot On The Floor, which happens once you wake and your feet hit the floor. Same thing, hormone release in preparation for the day, just after you are awake. Both of these cause some insulin resistance for a few hours after.

If you are at 7, 90 minutes after meals isn't bad, usually by 2 hours people fall more though.

Here are the recommended guidelines.

Below, tighter ranges are mentioned, but they are in MG so a conversion link is also included. More in line with what I understand is accepted here in the US.

I have been having this exact issue, my glucose levels were high initially post-prandial and fasting, with a low carb diet most of post-prandial readings are now between 5.4 - 7.4 as long as I am careful with my carbs, but my fasting levels just stubbornly won't go down into the normal range.

Lots of us were in that boat for months post remission, I myself saw 6s for months but keep up the low carb regime.
Body likes stasis, but when it drops don't expect a slow linear decrease, it may drop a whole point overnight then stay there, this was my experience at least.
I eventually levelled out in the low 4s but it took nearly 9 months.
Watch out for faux hypos on the way down, good luck

Thank you, its actually reassuring to see that it can take a while for the fasting levels to return to normal, because I was getting a bit worried I was doing something wrong.

Also weirdly after writing that yesterday today I had my first normal fasting blood glucose reading in weeks, 4.8! I am hoping it will stay around that now.
