Constantly hungry!! Help!!

hi
I get my moments when im still hungry , and not sure what to eat , I have just had some scrambled eggs and mushrooms for a snack not sure if that is good for me?

Hi Deniece,

I find a low carb, increased fat diet the best way to control diabetes & satisfy hunger. The best source of quality food IMO is powdered nuts - ground almonds; coconut (preferably as flour, but can be fine desiccated.) Flax seed (milled) is also useful. I find about 50 g of mixed nut powder makes a sustaining "porridge" that lasts about 4 hours. Cereal b'fast last only about 2 hours.

I use a range of nut recipes & stay healthy & active at 74. 4 sets of tennis today without tiring, & only drinking water.

Proteins & fats are slower to digest than carbs & last longer.

Hope that helps.

what if you need to loose lots of weight wont the fat part of it slow the weighloss down ?

Mh I know entirely what you mean. I can feel ok hunger wise but know I have to eat to either take meds or because I am going out on patrol for several hours or maybe going out rideing tthe bike. As I said pre meal I'm fine anfter meal I can be unbelievably hungry for several hours I can even eat to the point by stomach is painful andbyet my head says I am starving . I personally going to ask to be put on Amylin Mimetics which should help or atleast I hope I will

I find that if I eat carbs I get hungry very quickly but the hunger is for more carbs Whereas if I eat a meal based on proteon and fat I dont have the same food cravings Unfortunately I am under weight and would like to eat more but the carbs shoot my BGs up.
This DB thing just aint fair :(

Maybe, but you'll still lose weight providing you don't overeat.
Without carbs, whether low carbing, or low calorie, you'll lose weight as you use the fat in your body to live on.

Mainly it's important to find a diet you can stick at.
So long as you are losing weight, it doesn't matter if sometimes it's faster than others.

Some people find low calorie works, others find they want high fats in it.
So long as you eat and digest less overall, than you need to use to stay alive, you'll burn something in your body to make up the deficit.

So, eat what doesn't raise your bs, and don't eat more than the scales tell you to.
High fat doesn't mean a bucket of cream a day.

Personally, I don't eat fats, I find I feel a lot better, I don't need to take beta blockers, I have lowered my cholesterol, I enjoy my food, and don't feel hungry. I restrict calories though, and lose weight.
Fats have other, bad effects, on me, so I don't overload myself with them.

What do you eat at a meal?
I used to have a big appetite, but it has decreased a lot with training.

I thought Amylin Mimetics were for insulin users?

Do you mean Incretin Mimetics, i.e. Byetta Victoza? There is a list of injectable medications in this article.

:( I don't know anymore im all over the place , my doc told me yesterday about the glucose strips to just use them once a week , that is no good for me , I was doing low carbs , but getting hungry , so I tried to introduce some bacon , mushrooms, im just getting confused now , ill probably end up going back to how I was just eating rubbish food , im fed up with chiken hahaah and veg , I could just eat some steak and kidney pie and bucket of chips today ahahahah

Hi Sandy,
Could you afford the Codefree meter?
http://www.homehealth-uk.com/medical/bl ... esting.htm

Does your husband get strips provided? If he does then may be you could use one of his when trying new foods? It can get complicated because you could eat the same meal every day for a week and still get different results depending on your stress levels, exercise or lack of, infection etc.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

(Homer Simpson style :D )

Hungry comes with a diet.
If anyone tells you it doesn't, they're fooling themselves.
But it goes away.

I'm overweight. I got there by overeating. I did it, so I'm paying for it.

I tried several "easy" changes, and they helped.

But the breakthrough was accepting I simply ate too much.
The turning point was having a colonoscopy.
Preparation for that was not eating for 24hrs, this also was on the day of my teenage daughters birthday, with friends coming over, they had a day of cakes, and the really nice party nibbles.
Me, vegetable oxo cube.

Oddly, it wasn't bad, I didn't die from lack of food, but realised I could survive without eating all the time. I didn't even pig out the next day.

But I didn't realise at the time.

What really did it was seeing an obesity dietician.
She made me write down what I ate for a week.
Then suggested a few small changes, to classic "healthy" diet food, agreeing to modify it to eat to my bs.
I was fairly healthy to start with, just more excessive, so she wants to change a few things to lower calorie.

So I did a few simple things, and they worked.
Then I thought back to my "non eating" day, and realised the only thing stopping me cutting down was me, so I went on a self imposed 800 to 1200 calorie diet.
I knew I'd be hungry.
So I ate a set size meal, planned a snack inbetween, and remembered I could do it.
Yes I was hungry to start with.
So, whether I ate fats, carbs, protein, it was no different, I didn't crave more carbs any more than I missed fats.
And it worked.
Now I eat a lot less, I don't expect to eat more, and I do feel hungry when I feel hungry.

As to your pie, buy a tin of steak and kidney, and eat that instead of the pie.
Instead of chips, bake slices of squash in the oven, with a spray of 1 cal and a bit of salt.
And leave the table feeling maybe one more bite wouldn't hurt!

My menu today,

2 ryvita, low fat cheese, 1 square between, and 1/2 slice ham.

Three coffees, white, no sugar or sweetener.

Lunch, will be, in about 1/2 an hour, freshly made rye bread, (waiting for the breadmaker)
maybe two slices, no butter, an assortment of rollmop herring, seaweed, salmon and crab spread, a couple of mini elk salami. (10g each) Went to IKEA yesterday.

Dinner, no plan yet, as we're hospital visiting, and that always throws the day into disarray. Probably leftover pork and cabbage soup.

Now, I have to be honest, I could happily eat now, but I'm waiting for the breadmaker, so I can hang on half an hour, if I do something to distract me. (And go and sniff the breadmaker inbetween!)

edit - didn't eat the salami, as the fish was enough, but it did give me space for a glass of alcohol free mulled "wine". Maybe a bit high in sugar, but like my first Christmas market of the year.

I had (and still have) a lot of weight to lose. On the low carb diet, I've lost just over 3 stones. I didn't do it for weight loss, but to control my blood glucose levels, the weight loss has been a nice little side effect.
After years of low-fat dieting, I found it quite difficult to get out of the low fat mind-set at first, but once you start seeing the weight drop you realise that it makes sense.

I keep fish sticks (surimi) in the fridge for snacks, along with various cooked meats, and lots and lots of sugar free jelly. If I'm particularly hungry and can't get past that, I have a low sugar low carb protein shake (USN Diet fuel... tastes rank, but does the job).

Try it for a month & see - you will always be hungry if you don't eat enough, & many of us have founda protein/fat diet does help us lose weight.

well im not really sure what you would call a good reading , I have done my bs and monitored and wrote down the food I have
for example ,,, bread , porridge , meat , salad, cabbage , yoghurt , ryvita . this is the sort of food I have been eating for the last 5 weeks , and tested before food ranges are in the low 5s and after foods ranges are in the middles 6s so the food I am eating is this showing that I am tolerating it ,
to be honest its all getting me down now , I feel that I am becoming paranoid with bs testing , and when I go to look for food am scared to eat anything I fancy ,. incase my bs goes up ,,
and food is becoming a big problem for me. I keep looking for the low carb foods , and im not really having a variety maybe im doing all this wrong , but im going to have a chat with my gp today and get some advice off her ,, if it will be any advice that is , :D

Well, to finish off my day.
Hospital visiting didn't go as planned, so having been there for 17 hours straight,

my diet following on from yesterday to now, having been awake for 28 hours.

2 & 1/2 digestives
1 & 1/2 slices brown toast
75g of steak flavoured crinckle crisps.
2 rounds white toast.
over the night
4 pork sausages, and a slice of rye bread.
a lot of coffee, and a couple of glasses of a fairly sweet, probably sugary drink.
fairly recently.
Missed last nights tablets, missed this mornings.

Blood sugar isn't an unreasonable 12.2.

It'll go down shortly, so I can live with it.

edit - 20 minutes later 10.3, could well be I tested too soon after the sausage and bread, and sugary drink, as I'm still well within two hours.

edit - 2 hours 30minutes later, 5.6

Crab sticks have a lot of carbs, Youngs for example, 22.1g per 100g, 6.6g of which are sugar. Low fat though.

And a pack of 16 weighs 200g, so nearly 3g of carbs per stick.

I don't eat them as I'm avoiding processed food though.

I find the best way to stop feelings of hunger is to make suer I am busy, if I am sitting around with nothing to do I get hungry, when I am busy whatever I am doing I dont get hungry.

If I get engrossed in what I am doing the time flys and if I am not careful I find I can miss meals by an hour or two because I wasnt taking note of the time.

Another thing to try is to drink a glass of water when you feel hungry, thirst and hunger are almost identical in there physical feelings, sometimes a drink of water can make your imagined hunger disappear.

Keep hydrated and keep busy

I am also hungry now whole day, had an apple and then cream and blueberries and clear vegetable and beef soup after lunch and since then I didnt stop thinking about food :( for hours
