Type 2 Constantly Hungry

I see that you edited your comment to include the fact that you have been put on a statin. Are you aware that statins raise bg levels?
Oh gosh I’ve been on atorvastatin for years :/

Hi. You've already had a lot of good feedback. Make sure you have fasting lipids test at your next blood test having stopped the stains for few days so you see your real lipids numbers and ratios. Look at the ratios and not the total. Use the ratios to determine whether statins should even be considered. Ignore any advice to keep the fast down as it's based on bad research. Keep the carbs down and have enough fats and proteins to keep you feeling full. Read Malcolm Kendrick's book 'The Great Cholesterol con' if you want to learn more about the medical 'industry'. Malcolm is a UK GP.

I would advise you to prioritise learning about T2 but when you have the time then you can read up on cholesterol and statins etc. Aseem Malhotra has some short interviews on youtube concerning diet and statins. He is a British cardiologist and campaigns hard to make changes and bring information to the lay person.

Hi Stevie,
What kind of diet are you on can you give us an example of lunch?
Maybe there are something we could suggest that might help. :bookworm:

Hi! I've cut right down on carbs, switched to wholwheat bread & pasta and brown rice but a lot less than before. And I'm trying to limit my calories probably having less than half the calories I was having prediagnosis.

No alcohol, fizzy pop or cordial for 8 weeks and I've stopped eating take away sand fried junk food.

Chips are now a treat if I go out for a meal with a nice steak

I’ve gone back to low fat everything - I try avoid carbs as much as possible
No wonder you're hungry! You are trying to cut down two out of three macro nutrients - fat and carbs, leaving only protein. Unless you are very over-weight, I suggest you forget the low fat, bump up your fat and protein and focus on losing the carbs.

im always hungry
no matter how much or what
foods i eat
and its very distressing

Hi Steve,
I can only speak from my own experience before cutting out complex carbs like you, I was constantly hunger.
It's like that old joke about eating a Chinese meal and an hour later your hungry.

There's a reason for that carbs, even complex carbs leave you feeling hungry.
When I did ditch the carbs the basics bread, pasta, rice I was shocked the difference it made.
Suddenly I wasn't constantly hungry any more.

It goes against all "common sense" that food makes you hungry but it's true. :bookworm:

IF your willing to give it a go, try a little experiment.
A ham sandwich nobody eats one, so that's 4 slices of bread a bit of lettuce some tomato and 2 slices of ham & some cheese. Ditch the bread and eat the rest and see how long you feel full for. Next day eat the whole sandwich. Alternate like this for a week.

IF at the end of a week you can notice feeling less hungry when you don't eat carbs, it might be time to ditch the carbs. ;)
