Constipation

what would you suggest instead? Those are very nutrient rich foods?

I've not found Citrate to be helpful (afaict) in this regard. I take the Holland and Barrett stuff as it's the most cost effective and least full of additives (though not completely). Perhaps their recipe isn't so great?
Meat, of course. Beef is very nutrient rich.

Non diabetic hypoglycemia is a rare condition of low blood sugar. Surely a very low carb diet would make it worse?

We have had many forum members over the years who have found their non-diabetic hypoglycaemia has responded well to a low carb way of eating. Check out the Reactive Hypoglycaemia section of the forum to read some of their experiences.

I didn't know that - thanks.

sure, but I'm not convinced by the meat only diet. I know people claim it's great and if it works for them that's fine, but i'm not convinced

Well, you asked. I've been on a meat only diet for more than 2 years and I'm fine.

Anyway, I didn't say meat only. Just avoid legumes and cruciferous vegetables.

I hadnt heard of avoiding cruciferous veg. What is the problem with them?

They have high amounts of an indigestible short-chain carbohydrate (or oligosaccharide) called raffinose.
thanks. I have googled that just now. Cant see why that is a problem though - what am I not understanding please?

Not sure what choices that leaves on low carb. Most of the LC friendly veg seem to be cruciferous. I'd be happy not to eat kale as it's bitter and sticks in my teeth. But it is meant to be really healthy. Who knows, there seem to be good arguments for everything these days.

As for the urine thing. It was an occassional discomfort in the form of a burning sensation, not discoloured or bloody. I'm going to get the gp to look at that, but i expect they will ask me what I eat and assume diet is the problem. I don't know if there's a connection between, for instance, acidic pee and low carb.

you may find your previous thread on hard stools has some helpful advice: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/very-hard-stool.123502/

Keep up your water intake....drink loads ...eat lots of fruit and veg but stay away from starchy veg like parsnips and bananas

the dr checked my urine for infection and there's nothing wrong there.

currently though i seem to have the runs. It's one extreme to another. I don't know what i could have eaten that might disagree with me, but i don't otherwise feel ill at all.

When I first started LCHF I had a problem with constipation. This was solved by changing my breakfast. It is now: One tablespoon of wheat bran, mixed with one tablespoon of homemade sugar-free muesli, topped with two blackberries, two raspberries, two blueberries, four thin slices of banana and just enough zero-fat milk to make the dish edible.

One tablespoon of wheat bran contains about 2.3 grams of carbs, of which 1.6 grams is fiber. Breakfast is the meal where I worry a bit less about the carbs, partly because it is the meal I take just before doing my daily physical exercise.

I mentioned the above to the doctor who performed my last routine colonoscopy. I asked him whether this was a good way to cope with the constipation and he said: "I would do exactly what you have already done."

I am also drinking at least 1.5 liters of water per day, but the improvement in regularity came before I started doing that.
