I am with a hospital in Wales and according to the rep and DSN we are the only PCT that makes you collect consumables for the Accuchek pumps from the hospital, they are not delivered directly to the patients. My questions:

1) Does anybody else have to collect their consumables from the hospital DSN?

2) I have to travel 25 miles there and 25 miles back, and although not working at the moment, when I return to work this is going to be wholly inconvenient...... AS I am not working at present, or getting any other income at all (ESA, Jobseekers, SSP etc), it is also an extra expense travelling to collect the consumables........how many months worth of consumables do you think the DSN should supply to me?

3) Would it be worthwhile writing to the PCT and asking them if I could have my consumables delivered to my home?

Any advice gratefully received......need to talk to Pump DSN on Monday 20th Sept about this matter....

I get mine delivered to my door...well, to the sorting office as I am never in to pick them up when the postie arrives! the bill for this does go to the hospital though!

I can sympathise...as I would be in a similar position. I would, if they refused to let me get them delivered..order lots at the same time, and combine picking them up with a clinic, blood test visit?

I feel for you, that sounds like a real pain!

Not only do I get my delieved to my door, I can if have them delivered to anywhere... I have a repeat order set up, which delivers every 3 months, I only have to phone if I want to change where they are to be delivered or change any aspect of the order... I get the delivery note, the invoice goes directly to my consultant...

But my pump is registered to me and I hold the warranty for it and not the hospital... Some clinics hold the warranties for the pumps, so the comsumables have to go the warrenty holder..

Does your clinic hold any diabetic clinics in out-patients anywhere nearer to you?

If they do you could ask them that you pick up from here to cut down your traveling time/cost

No, it is the PCT that stipulates that the supplies must be ordered and collected from the hospital, so that they can monitor the ordering and usage of everything.

My machine is mine, the warranty is mine, but the diabetic nurse orders everything at the hospital. It takes 2 days for her to organise, and then takes up to another 7 days for it to arrive and details checked and recorded to the pump user.

Apparently according to Accucheck, we are not the only PCT that does it this way, I just wondered if there was another pump user that has the same set up, and how many months stock they could get at one time.

My daughter has a pump but doesn't go on it untill Monday 3rd Dec. We have had the pump for a couple of weeks so we could have a play with it and check out the settings. Also had the DSN come round twice for 2 hour training sessions.
We were given the Roche telephone number and told what to order and they were delivered within 2 days. We order all our own consumables direct and only need prescriptions for insulin, test strips and the multiclick lancets. She also advised us to get some plaster removal spray on prescription.
So far I have absolutely no complaints, daughter was diagnosed on 2nd June this year.

Good luck

Harry

You can ask OPUS for a sample 'lift off spray' which does make removal of sets a lot easier. Another pumper got a sample sent direct to me, and I have been on to website and asked for a sample spray as well to se sent to my mum. It is excellent, depsite the samples for 'bags' being sent.......
I don't actually mind having the 6 months stoage of sets etc and at least I know I have some, although the quantities of sets etc will not be enough, as I am finding real problems with the new flexilink plus sets connecting to the tubes, and the flexilink plus sets and tubes needing to be changed after days not 3 days.....
